GenData mod, Scenario & savefile

If I have mod some data in Gendata (and saved it), then created my own scenario (using that modified Gendata), and finally loaded and run the game, saving the t1, what happens to my new campaign if I restore the original GenData?

Is the game save file indipendent, self-containing all its needed info?
It would seem so!
and if so, it becomes easier to maintain scenarios with modified data (via editor), without compromising the existence of the original Gendata in their own main directory...

game saves have all relevant data embedded, similar to scenarios with locked generic data
WitE dev team - (aircraft data)
WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)
WitE2 dev team (aircraft data)
