Getting a true multiplayer team game working

Post by Elessar2 »

So, everyone backs up their sc3 config file (specifically their online user name and password) and then wipes those fields, the first person on Team Axis sets up a new team account and password, does his turn, saves it WITHOUT hitting end turn, then gives the name and pw to the next teammate, who inputs the user name and pw into the sc3 file, loads the save and does his thing, then on to teammate #3 (if he exists), who does the same, then finally hits end turn.

Allies then do the same thing (set up their own account), onward and upward.

Would the server give an error if it sees 2 accounts for one IP address or game install? Or if the same account logs in from a different IP? [Does SC even keep track of IP's?] Or if doing manual things to the sc3 file leads to crashes and whatnot?

Yeah, I am jonesing for such a game, in case you were wondering... Worse comes to worst we can just manually email the saves around, but this would be much more streamlined & convenient.

Hi,

I can't say for sure but I suspect the PBEM++ server might have an IP issue with the proposal, but Matrix support could probably let you know for sure.

If I can ask, why not try the Hotseat method as an alternative where yes you would have to email the turns back and forth, but since the Hotseat method now includes replays, it would feel pretty close to the experience of the PBEM++ server without having to change around your config files etc.

OK will do. Just wondered if doing it the 1st way would avoid more grief than it would cause.
