Same players, with a bit of rotation.
Goran will switch to Japan, Tim as SU, Rafael as WA, and me as the fuhrer.[:D]

Hopefully, we will be more of a challenge this time, but I would not bet on the Axis side winning yet.
Goran will not have the time for the AAR again, I'll try to cover his part if I have the time.
If not, I'm sure that Rafael will kindly do it again.

Edit: we had to restart again, and the end result of my turn 1 is very similar.

A lucky RNG made that cargo ship explode.

Russia Fall 39

The Russians can't do much, and thus don't do much. My Russian strategy will be as follows: to push my tech up as much as possible through espionage and, because I hope to do this, create an INF + ART combo that is annoying to fight against.

Typically after the first turn or two of Barbarossa the Germans get stuck balancing between further attacks and protecting vs counterattacks. A concentration of infantry and artillery should allow me to press on multiple fronts at once. My hope is to paralyze the Germans for a few critical turns until I can turn the tide.

Just for fun, I'm going to try to make Belorussia defensible on turn one. Obviously the Germans will take E. Poland and the Ukraine pretty easily. But I might be able to save the Belorussian factory and even if I can't, massed artillery might slow down the panzers.

The Russian front is all about momentum. My goal is to prevent the Germans from maintaining it.

The only concrete step on turn one is to invest in tech. My hope is that with a point in each of the critical areas I can gain passive research going forward. So the Russians build no units (I don't need them yet) but invest in spying and research instead.

Fall 39 Western Allies (WA)

The Germans air force in Western Germany were a heavy bomber and a fighter so the French decided to launch a preventive air attack on Germany's airfields with its fighter and bomber, resulting in both Germany's and France's fighters damaged.

As Germany had no fighter cover WA decided to launch an attack on W. Germanys harbours, odds were 66% of damaging a vessel and 18% of suffering a hit. This time the flak hit the CAG and damaged it.

The damaged TF in French West Africa was replaced and the sub attacked but as expected it got away.

Low countries taken, GE player has to be careful not to extract too many troops from the W. Germany, or the WA counterattack on the fatherland could mean a game over.
And again TLC must be garrisoned properly as well. Did I get the right combo? As the next turn is winter, I believe I'm good.

As Scotland was only lightly defended, I've decided to bomb its factory, but an unlucky roll meant only my HB was damaged.

As the WA CAG was damaged the last turn, I've moved out my other sub (a rookie crew), and it has managed to damage a lone transport at the shores of Canada.

A veteran sub continue to wreak havoc at the equator, another transport damaged, and the crew got the elite status. [8D]

The only thing that is worrying me with this, is that each time I damaged/destroyed a transport, the WA readiness status raised a bit. 3/3. Isn't that supposed to happen on a chance based? Is it pure bad luck, or a rule?
Will have to test that premise next turn [:D].

Russia Fall 39 - Very little to report. We continue to ramp up our espionage efforts. Positive results start to trickle in.

I also rebuilt the rail into Poland and sent an ART unit down there. I want to avoid the combined arms shift and push the WR up. Note to self: check the specifics. I hope that SU WR goes up 'per unit' instead of something annoying like 'per INF' sent into Poland. This is what happens when you don't play for years!

I don't know what they might have stolen the US has no production in the Summer and Fall of '39. Only what's on the production queue set up by default, the documents stolen aren't worth the paper they're written on [:D][:D][:D]

The allies begin the hunting of u-boats, one sent back to Kiel for repairs and the brave french bomber pilots sunk one transport fleet docked in the harbour against all odds.

Russia Winter 40

The Russians watch Germany storm the Maginot line in winter with bemusement. I suspect the algorithm used to calculate their chances was missing some key data.

Otherwise, not much to report. China may be cut off from the West soon, but it will push the US WR up, and we're happy with that trade-off.

Soviet spying is curiously inefficient. I suspect the Germans are reading our dispatches and have adjusted their counterintelligence to match. Every point of production that doesn't go to panzers helps us in the long run. And we're still getting research from other networks. Note that every turn we get these results is the equivalent of 4-5 extra production points.

Winter 40 WA

Nothing much after the fending off Germany's attack. Troops were shifted from Wester to Eastern France, taking E. France supposes less factories and resources to repair but it's a fortified area and will cause heavier casualties.

The elite U-boat was attacked but its skipper is a true sea wolf and got away without a scratch.

WA allies production has reached level three for UK and Canada.
