The Rematch MM (Allied) vs HB (Axis) No HB for now

Post by MagicMissile »

And the mirror match.

How to improve in this game? I have ideas of changes in both the UK and Soviet build. We will see how it plays out.

One idea I have is to maybe not defend the French much at all with the UK. It is way harder to inflict losses anyway nowadays and delaying the fall 1 or 2 turns if that not sure it matters that much. I rather prefer to prepare the defense of Egypt and UK properly instead. I think I might only send 2 uk inf corps to France but I might change my mind and send those usual 3-4 we will see.

And the tech.

France and USSR as usual. I will let the Uk do intercept and Groundsupport and the US will make Fighter bombers (they look pretty good and I have never used them) and excortfighters. Like last game UK will do the escorting. US Strat bombing and detection if I will ever use them.

And we have some house rules if anyone interested

1. French colonial troops cannot be moved at all until Italy joins the Axis. This is to prevent them from being replaced by UK units or weaker French Units.

2. Neither side can invade in the Caspian Sea.

3. Axis can’t enter the Far East Box (or whatever it is called). I think currently they can paradrop into it.

4. After the Winter War the Finns can’t enter the ceded territory until after they are at War with Russia, even if not occupied by Russian troops.

5. The Western Allies can move fleets into the Baltic (which of course requires that they deactivate the mine fields). But if the Axis subsequently reactivate the minefields then they can’t use oilers on any fleets trapped in the Baltic.

6. The French can’t build any escorts or MS until 1941.
7. The WDF armour unit can’t leave the Middle East until Italy joins the Axis.
8. The Axis cannot invade Portugal unless Spain is either conquered by one side or the other or is an Axis Ally. This is to prevent the Axis from conquering Portugal via an invasion from France so it can do a one turn take down of Spain.

End of September.

Not much to report. Denmark and Poland has fallen of course. The only thing of note is the randomness of the BoA. The British obviously were prepared for the Sub war in this alternative universe. After 3 turns the losses are 3 merchants for 5 sub factors. Crazy.

The calm before the storm. As can be seen I havent sent much to France but I think I will send one arm corps next turn might be able to do something. Got lucky with the weather as well a snow turn lowers effectiveness a bit. Not sure if it makes any difference but I take what I get [:)].

Launched a preemptive invasion of Luxemburg. TGry to make invasion of Belgium a bit more difficult. HB did the same in the other game.

Forces and casualties as the war in the west begins.

Not much losses. After a bad start the German subs are doing a bit better.

And the tech. Nothing insanely good or bad to report. But UK arm and assault still at 39 tech will make it even harder to do anything in France.

Ok some real life events made me put the game and AAR on hold for a bit. Life can be interesting sometimes.
1 I will become a father (very good)
2 we were without internet for 6 days. The price of living in the middle of nowhere Thailand [:)] (not so good)
3 My wifes pigfarm all the pigs have died in African Swine flu. A fincancial blow it will probably be ok but she was/is very sad. (very bad).

So there we are but now it is time to get back to the game!

Germany gobbles up Belgium.

There is no stopping the German advance. Not sure what HB does that is different from myself but he accomlishes more with less all the time. Fewer attack smaller losses and still making better progress.

The UK did a counterattack and shattered one inf corps.

What is going alright is the BoA the German subs do have a hard time.

But I have not built any extra shipyards or begun any MM so I might still be in trouble later.

I forgot some screen shots but France fell on August 2 1940 and the UK lost one inf corps.

The Italians invade Vichy North Africa. Germany take Vichy France and invade Yugoslavia.

Again underestimating what HB can do. In a lightning offensive involving 2 paradrops and 2 invasions he overrun 1 HQ and 2 airunits and isolate 1 arm corps 2 large inf corps and 1 small inf corps. A disaster to say the least. I will lose West africa and the UK will be handicapped for at least a year.

In the Royal Navy tradition of offensive spirit the fleet sail to at least try and punish the Italian navy even though the enemy control the air.

The result is satisfying. Uk navy do suffer some losses but inflict a lot on the Italians. Sinking 6 out of 9 surface ships I think.

There have been some naval action in the Atlantic as well with some losses for the German navy. With the addition of the Vichy French navy and the fact that the BoA so far is going pretty well the Allies can almost declare Victory at sea. Unfortunately though the only thing that is going well so far [:)].
