Russian Disaster

Post by Von Cone-on »

Hi to All,
I've just come back from a few days off to open my next turn in a game against Loveman1 in which I thought I was doing O.K. Unfortunately he has cut off a major portion of my Nth front See jpeg, units marked in orange by a panzer korps marked in red.

I'm thinking of counter attacking ( I managed to retreat a Pz Korps last turn) but I was wondering about the following

If I retake the rail hex does it reconnect all the other rail hex's (still in my possession) at full supply or do they have to repair as if I was taking enemy rail.

Does my rail repair at the end of my turn or at the beginning of my next turn.

How much will his attacking potential be affected by snow only a couple of turns away as I doubt my ability to hold the possibly retaken supply line for more than a turn or two

When generally does the blizzard weather start

When does a prudent german have to give thought to stopping and entrenching for the winter

Thanks in advance Von Cone-on:)

Yup, that's a classic!:D You should push that PzKorps back if you can. It looks as though you have a chance to make it surrender

As soon as that rail hex is repaired you're OK. But really, this is a very good time to pull back all those orange units of yours.

What's the yellow arrow?

Actually, regarding rail, I think you will spend one turn with the captured rail hex being repaired, and then be fine. Not sure as to when the rail will be repaired, but I don't think it will be at the end of the current turn.

The disaster will be much harder, when he arrive the northern railroad between Leningrad and ? (I don´t have a map at work, but it must be Yaroslaw or Vologda).
The only connection between the Leningrad area and the rest.
15-20 soviet corps with a supply level of 0, no chance to evacuate the factories from Leningrad, are things I don`t want to see. (I saw it in a game against Tom 1939  )
Beware of this !

Hi K62,
I was going to ask more questions on wether the units in orange would be better to wait for re-supply & if not die where they stand in good entrenchment, or try & plot in 0 supply & probably get mashed. The yellow arrow was to illustrate where I really don't want him to start rolling up the river line to cut off Leningrad if I retreat in 0 supply.
Cheers for the advice

Hi Rick,
Yeah I think you're right about the rail just wishful thinking on my part I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that I can get supply to them & retreat in good order, Sorry was I saying something about wishful thinking?????

You're right, loveman, that's exactly what I was saying too. With a bit of luck, at least one of those two exposed PzKorps in front of Moscow should surrender :D

Hi Rick,
The rail converted back on the second full turn after I retook the hex ie retook hex at combat phase. No supply turn after. Normal supply turn after that.

Sounds good. 1 turn to repair after recapture, and then get the supplies through. Thanks for passing it on to everyone.
