Post-WWII Option?

Post by commandergren »

So, I'm one of those people who like playing scenarios to the bitter end. But it would be a lot of fun if there was the option to continue the war with a "World War III" option if both Japan and Germany surrender.

The idea would be simple, if you said yes to the option then at the moment that both countries surrender each player would be randomly assigned either the Allies (UK, France, USA, India, China) or the Soviet Union (and Chinese Communists). The randomness would be to ensure that the Allied player doesn't try to favour one side or the other in the End Game, since he or she could find themselves with the weaker side.

It would be a fun element to add to the game. Would it be historical? Maybe not, though it was a possibility. And maybe the game isn't designed to be stretched that far, but it would be neat to try it (and open up some very different fronts).

Anyway, just a thought, and sorry if this is not the right folder to post it in. But is this something the game mechanics could be adapted to allow?

I like this idea

It would make for a interesting continuation of the game. It could be activated before Germany/Japan surrender to simulate the idea amongst some of the German leaders of the Western Allies turning against Stalin.

Pretty ingenious idea about keeping the player honest.

I'd add, it would only be in effect if the human player actuated play for that given country (ANY action on that country's behalf). So I let the AI play UK/USA/etc, and I control USSR, then I can remain USSR. If I do anything as one of the other nations, it becomes a roulette wheel deal.

I have a feeling I am writing a letter to Santa Claus with that, though. [:'(]

I suppose it could also work in a scenario where the Axis wins, in which case "World War III" would be between Germany and Japan!

It could be called "The Man in the high castle" campaign [:D]

For anyone who hasn't seen the Series it's a very good "What if" Alternative outcome of WW2 (A bit fanciful in some aspects, but fits in with the Nazi obsession with the Occult and parallel universe)

If you haven't watched it it's well worth it and enjoy [:)]

Maybe have the USSR transition to a modified 'neutral' status, breaking away from the Allies. I think about the time they are rolling over Poland, at the latest enter Germany, is the time to do that.

It then creates a non-war status between the Allied nations and USSR. This has to be broken at some point by a DoW.

It also allows for all sorts of 'diplomacy' and weird things to happen that amp up the situation between them.

not very strong the assetments,

URSS dont have navy at the end of the war, is not interesting a game without navy; what you mean is a game of COLD WAR, which the armys are static and is all spiying and politics; but not movement of troops as what real happened.

Sure, the Allies would have an advantage at sea (which they did historically) but the Soviets wouldn't really be all that interested in going to sea, it's all land. Not really all that different than the Allies vs. Germany aspect of this game...
