Truck Column Transfers

Post by Jagger2002 »

St Vith scenario. I have a number of SS units which have suffered too many transportation losses and are now moving as leg units. I bought a truck column and co-located the trucks with 2 SS units needing additional transportation. First, I transferred trucks to the SS KG Sandig formation without any problems. Then I attempted to transfer trucks to a battalion of the 1st SS Panzergrenadier battalion. I received the message that there was no target unit TOE match and could not transfer trucks into the SS unit. The 1st SS does contain Opel Blitz trucks but they were SS trucks and the truck column had Wehrmacht trucks. The SS Sandig formation did not have trucks listed at all within their TOE but accepted the Wehrmacht trucks. Is this a bug?

Is it possible that SS Sandig is in fact a Kampfgrup ? They have flexible Table of equipment, unlike the regular unit like maybe 1st SS panzergrenadier battalion.

Maybe the solution could be to merge the 1st SS battalion and the trucks in a Kampfgroup ?

Sandig, Knittel & Hansen are in indeed KG.

I have to ask, so all of this costs PP's? Once you pay for a truck col. do you have to pay to create the merge of the troops and transport too?

On a similar note;unless I missed something and I am sincerely hoping I did; I am just now looking over the Big One ( WaR) scn. and I am struck not that I will need to break down a pretty large number of Regts to battalions, but I have to pay for it? I wont have anywhere near enough PPs to do, well anything if it costs me 3 per....I mean there are units in regts called battalions, with built in hierarchy etc. I just cant march one off without paying?

Units of maneuver are battalions, not regiments. By turn 2-3, most German Korps will give you the option to create emergency units, usually the size of a Feldersatz (Field Replacement) battalion; which come in handy.

Transferring ain't cost PP, but AP.

Unless you haven't achieved a breakthrough (as Germans), I'd not split up units at the beginning.

Now that I am back home from 4 weeks stint with the Reserves, I am trying my best to create a few tutorial slides before 'Null Tag' (16th December).

What would you personally like me to explain? I have created some useful (I think) tutorials for TOAW IV in the past.

Re; the 'transfer'/creation of a KG of a battalion from a regt., maybe I am not doing it right? It says cost 3 PP at the bottom...(?)

Herr Oberst, yes I have seen you 'around' at TOAW, CS:Me , Vietnam ( soon to come, they say) many forums and many periods....👍

Re; the tactical advice, if the past smaller scns are any indicator I'll need plenty of 'chase' units and blockers. The allies break down a lot and looking over their dispositions in WaR, if they dont break down many of their regts it appears, ( appears being the operative word), they cant help but be surrounded piecemeal.

Thank you kindly, I will think on that wish list...I am going to start WaR today hopefully.
