Scripting? a stuck German armor unit

Post by SittingDuck »

Why is this armor unit sitting in Budapest immediately after Hungary joins the Axis?

I cannot find a guard script for Germany for that hex. Only Allied scripts exist for Budapest.

Looking at these guard scripts for that current situation, I am going to guess the TIRANA script?!?

Currently Italy is on 'defensive' for Tirana. But it looks like this is as close as Germany can get to that city? I don't know. Just guessing... reaching.

So looks like it could be part of the offensive buildup for Yugoslavia?

In this case, what you can do here is left click on the unit and then press the '~' key and it should then tell you what the current plan is for the unit. For plans, it could be a scripted plan, or it could be an automatically assigned plan. Automatically assigned plans are typically Offensive or Defensive plans so that should help you to narrow it down.

Yeah, it wasn't Tirana - I changed that and it is still holding. I will try the tilde key (can't believe I didn't think of that). I tried it for the global readout (not the 'unit specified' one).

OK, I checked the assignment as you indicated and I can't make heads/tails out of it:

The weird thing is, on every run, it is that same armor unit.

In this case, and depending upon the date, if there are no plans for units, e.g. build up for an invasion of Yugoslavia, or build up for Barbarossa and so on, then units will just go to the nearest city/town (for maximum supply) and just wait until further instructed.

Is this for a custom campaign or the default?

Also, what is the current in game date?

It could be that the Yugoslavia invasion is about to come up and that this one particular unit was dropped there by the AI in anticipation of that, e.g. sometimes via an AI UNIT bonus event to ensure that a strong unit is definitely going to be there etc.

Custom. The Yugo campaign really is the next one, but just not activated yet (buildup). So I think that is it. I will def look into the unit bonus feature. That's another area I will start checking to discern AI behavior.

Thanks Hubert!

Bingo.

AXIS AI: Germany - Tank - Yugoslavian Invasion Helper - 1941 (2) ----- Yugo leans Axis

I think I need to study the unit.txt file. It's HUGE, but a good thing to do.
