Working on 6th Army Campaign

Post by ernieschwitz »

Just in case someone got the idea I only played the campaign, here are some of my recent maps.

First the approach to Stalingrad, which is to be used in scenario 8. The mission here is to take the Don Bend. Hence the red flags, that you need to capture and hold.

Will this be playable with PBEM? This looks really good. Been following your AAR.

Yes, it will be.

The Belgians, British and French, won't go to the interlude scenario (where new units are purchased for the first part of the Campaign, in 1940). That player will however get to do full research and unit purchasing in the Intermezzo and Rest & Refit scenarios.

I have however not balance tested it for that.

I would strongly recommend not playing the Allies/Soviets against an AI Germany. The AI is simply not aggressive enough.

I have finished Scenario 8.

The title of which is Case Blue, and the mission is to take the Don Bend. I will playtest it before I make it available to the public for testing there.

Got a problem. Finished first scenario and did interlude. When I start the second scenario something weird happens when I hit the button to end the interlude. It says German turn but when I acknowledge it..it goes thru another preliminary action and says it is German's turn again. My units start all mixed up--Corps are not together...and I don't get a chance to pre-place my units in a starting position if I am suppose to get the opportunity do so. I have to spend the first turn getting my units organized instead of attacking.

Not sure where I should place this message but this location seems better than the AAR area.

The double login is normal. I haven't been able to get it to a place where it only has 1 turn, so that is what happens there.

The scrambling of units to start off is normal. It is the way the game allows for transfers of units between scenarios. Unfortunately not a lot I can do about it. I did give players an extra turn so they can reorganize, compensated by making the map broader.

I admit that both of these things are not ideal...

Is there any way to know which units are in which HQ's control without clicking on each unit. In another game clicking on a HQ highlights all the units under that HQ's direct control. A major HQ only highlights other HQ's and units directly under it's control but does not highlight units under a subordinate HQ's control only the HQ itself. I know the OOB shows you but it is not on the map itself.

They are color coded I find all of one command at a time move them to the top of the stack using OOB when I dont find them all after moving.

The color codes are not obvious enough for my eyes to see.

You have played enough ATG to know that is the only way to identify what unit is in what headquarters

Nuh-uh! There's also a text under unit's name!

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

You can even change the color of the stripe, if you don't think it is clear enough. If that is not enough there is always the "nuclear option", changing the color of the regime you are playing. And of course there is reading...

Ok

I am ready to announce that I've made the 9th Scenario, Stalingrad, now. Like the 8th scenario, and all the others before it, I have played it through once, so as to be able to identify bugs, before I play it through in the AAR. No need to have a faulty game show up there...

This means I am 1 scenario away from finishing. I must admit this is a monumental undertaking... making a campaign takes much longer, and involves more research than one would expect. I really hope people who are playing it will enjoy it. I made is as much for them as for the fun of making it :)

I wonder if anyone will complain about incorrect ammo count [:D]

You never know. I had someone complain in GD1938v3 that the Japanese divisions should have different experience (each) and not be fully manned... (same going for the Chinese) and saying that was a game breaker for them. Despite the fact that getting that information would be more than next to impossible...

Scenario 10: The battle of Stalingrad, or as it is called (at least for the moment): Stalingrad: Final Stand.

It is winter, which the landscape reflects. I had to change the text from white to yellow, for it to be somewhat legible. It might not be entirely legible in this screenshot that I have made with a panoramic capture. I had to shrink it too for it to be able to be uploaded in some quality. Here it is:

Things are moving a bit slowly, after I had a few down days.

I thought this might be a good time to let people download the campaign as it looks right now. It is functional from scenario 1 to 9. So all that lacks is scenario 10, the finish.

Try it out.

If you have any issues, please let me know :)

We can do the same thing again :)

The trouble is with the way I registered PPs before when the Scenarios came in the first batch, and the way it happens in the second batch. If you played some of the scenarios earlier, and had spare PPs they would double each time you went into a new scenario. Now they don't, but register the correct number of PPs.
