Map edit

Post by carll11 »

I am noodling around with the map edit feature, under intermediate editors, I select the map load it and made a few innocuous edits added a fort removed one etc....save it to what appears to be the correct map file BUT when I run the scenario, the edits aren't there....

You need to load the scenario, load the modified map and save the scenario.

hummmmmm, I wonder; how difficult that would be? Or maybe there's another way to attain a fortification 'value' in a hex for a unit thats been occupying it for 10 days.

Q- do we know on a comparable basis in terms of lets say entrenchment 'points', how many equals a Fortification or Light Fortification in defensive strenght?

I think you can see whee I am going with this....

The appearance of physical light fortifications on a hex is something I have been toying with in my future design plans. So this might come along in the future. I have basically been thinking that there is a chance light fortifications appear after X rounds of entrenching for Y power points. Engineers would then be more apt at this.

Unlike e.g. in TOAW IV, I am quite sure that EP from engineers won't improve an already constructed fortification.

Make a backup of your scenario & using the Simple Editor (before starting the scenario) you can, for example, assign/adjust 'VP' points to hexes.
Not sure to what extent the limits are per editing...if any.

Thank you Vic, yes you see what I am driving at. If an eng. stays in a hex for lets say 3 days, they get a light fort hex and at a specified PP cost....

Just a random Q- comparatively what protection would or could a light fort hex provide, compared to lets say an eng. dug in at 250 entrenchment value?

Load the scenario with the updated map, use the simple editor to adjust the VP. Save the scenario. That should do the trick.

when you say 'adjust' you means after I have added them back to each location the map? I dont have that information, what each value is per vict. point hex that Vic set up.

#37 is the change victory point table, I tried typing in monschau, its x,y location and assigned it some points to prove I could do it, when I go to the map, it has the points, but when I saved and loaded again,on the map it has victory points but when I go to the table its not listed, like it disappeared....do they have to be in the table or can I just assign the points via the map?

Would you be kind enough to post a screen shot of the table with all of the VPs and locations assigned with points so I can add them back?

Many many thx for your help....btw this is for the wacht am rhine main scn.

First, let me ask you what is our intention. From what I understood, you made modifications to the Wacht am Rhein map, right? You did so in just loading the WaR scenario, edited the stuff you wanted to do and then saved the modified scenario under a different name in order NOT to override the original scenario and the map modifications, right?

If so, then all should be fine. If you just edited the default map, then you won't have any VPs on that map at all.

So basically you just need the original un-modified WAR scenario?

well, if I could get the map vp table to insert or to copy and add back in, if I dl the whole new scn. it will overwrite the changes i have made(?)

Maybe I can just copy the map into the maps file? but units etc. will stay?

Good lesson per working with 'backups'; a simple re-install will fix your problem.
