Requesting Opponent(s) for PBEM

Post by Vathailos »

It'll be a first for me. You don't need to be gentle, just explain the set-up steps required s-l-o-w-l-y. ;) Needless to say, all slots open.

I'd prefer C&C “off” (since I don't have much recent practice with it on, but can try it your way if it’s a must), all the "realism" settings on, and the potential for a bit of air or infiltrator action to keep it interesting, but other than that, I'm open.

E-mail me if you'd like to teach me a lesson or two about human opponents.

adumbgrunt@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance. Not to worry, I take a beating well, and am not above giving one once I get acclimated. :D

Hello Vath,

I'm new here too and I'm looking for some PBEM oponent. How about 2 newbee battle?

We can play some scenario or generated battle. I played mostly germans (for now) :D and I'd like to take them if it's ok with you.

Thanks for the promot reply, and Germans ye shall be. I'll try and get up a decent scenario this evening and get ready to get started. I'll most likely try the Brits if that's OK. I've played them a little, and think it'll be a fun challenge.

Look forward to seeing you on the battlefield. I'll update this post when I get it all ready.

Thanks again,

I'll be posting it up tonight. :D

Oh, and Army 11B and now *shudders* A, Viking. Two good friends of mine in high school decided they'd join the service upon gratuation. One of us went Army (me), one went Navy, and one went Navy light, oh, errr... I mean USMC ;).

My good friend that went Marines is a lifer. He's an embassy guard somewhere in the former Soviet bloc, married to a beautiful British lass, and they've just adopted two Russian baby girls. Despite the fact that we've lost much contact over the years, we still exchange good-natured cross-service slams now and again. ;)

The one thing I like about "the Corps" is that everyone there's a rifleman first, they get that portion of their training, then go on to pick up whatever MOS they decide to pursue. If I could change one thing about the Army, that’d be it. I hate hearing about new recruits and stress cards, or going to the PX during Basic or AIT with your DI to get ice cream. Things sure have changed since the days of Harmony Church and Sand Hill. Bah.

And that whole Army of One is something I think everyone actually in the Army loathes. Talk about resorting to shameful B.S. in order to push a product… Touché! Good news is that they get teamwork beaten into them pretty darn quickly. Only saving grace I guess.

If you’d like to make up a campaign, I’d be happy to let you “instruct” as it were. Look forward to it in fact. And thanks for the welcome! :)

Viking, I usually prefer Germany or Russia.

And while we're at it. How the HECK do I set the points/scenario up for a PBEM game? I am trying (and have been for the last two days) to get a game together for Dwayne, and I'm falling woefully short.

Any advice would be much appreciated. *smacks head*

First Click

Play By Email
Then Battle ( This is where you set map size, vis, weather, no of turn ect )

Then Preferences

On that screen, you can select the points and the options

Hope this helps

Alright!

Post by Vathailos »

It does help. Somehow, I either got the sequence wrong, or couldn't spot the "number of starting points" portion in the Preferences screen.

Either way, I'll be grounting a bathroom  and trying this again this evening. Sorry for the delay Dwayne!!

Thanks to Viking, I should have a product ready for you tonight!

And Viking, if you're up to a battle/small campaign, feel free to e-mail me. I'd love to get started!

Look forward to kicking... well, taking names anyway, or is that notes?

UPDATE

Got it! Thanks Viking! Dwayne, should I e-mail you the starting files?

UPDATE 2

I have to admit that I now like the C&C "ON" (or whatever setting gives you least control, is more difficult, more historical, I think it's "ON" IIRC). I'm re-learning how to use my formation commanders, it's more like the original SP IMO. Good stuff! I might be a worthy novice opponent in the not-so-distant future!!!

Practice makes... well, better anyway. :p

Hi Vath,

ok, I'm looking foward for a starting files. Use this adress: dwayne@centrum.sk

And what are we playing? Germans (me) vs Brits (you)? SPWaW 7.1? Any scenario or generated battle? How many art., mines, air sec.?

Oh, and I prefer not to play with C&C ON. I have never played with this on, so I don't know how.

Ok, Dwayne, here it is (or rather, here's the description):

SYSTEM: SPW@W v. 7.1

YOU: Germany

ME: United Kingdom

TYPE: Meeting Engagement (both advance)

POINTS: 4200 (4000 after HQ A0 purchase)

WEATHER: 2

VISIBILITY: 20

DATE: OCT 1943

TIME: Dusk

MAP: MEDIUM, Random

C&C: (per your request) OFF (I've recently started playing with it "On" and I love it, I think it adds even more realism)

MINES: I'd prefer none in this particular engagement at the beginning. However, if you've got some engineers, feel free to lay them during the game if you like.

AIR: If you've got the points, feel free.

ARTY: some folks put a 10% cap on it. I personally won't be buying a ton, I'll more than likely upgrade the quality of my troops ;). I think 10%'s the accepted value in most bigger PBEM games. With such a small point total, want to say 20% cap (800 points)?

I forgot to e-mail it last night prior to going to bed, but I'll try and send over lunch. Look forward to the combat, Herr General.
