How wdo you get Paratroops to be able to land hexes away.

Pump them up to 100% effectiveness. Put them on a rail line. Use a supply truck if you have to.
To jump they need 100% effectiveness or more.

They have to start in a city/town hex, be at 100%, and then the hex can be no more than 6 or 8 hexes away (I forget which).
Also, you must have purchased and have ready an Air Transport (which is consumed on an airdrop).

It is 8 hexes. But the air transport is not consumed. However it can be destroyed by enemy air (which will then damage the para and abort he mission). You can also start the drop from any hex that can legally base an air unit. However a better supplied hex will help get to 100% faster.

Is there no need to have a TAC bomber around? I don't remember.

Yes, I think you are right. I was thinking it was the same for para.

Maybe it might? Usually there is a bomber around when we use a para anyway, so we we might never have noticed it is required?
