CV's reacting into coastal hex

Post by Mike_B20 »

Edit : I was mistaken when posting this,

"Since the last patch cut in half the air ops flying from CV's in coastal/shallow hexes there now exists a problem with CV reaction moves.

Sometimes the CV's react into coastal/shallow hex.

Would it be possible to fix this so that carriers only react into deep water hexes?"

good call. however I thought it only happened at a base hex or one with a dot (potential base) rather than shallow.

My mistake, I thought my CV's had launched a half strength strike from a coastal hex but checking the map it appears to be deep water.
My CV's were in the hex west of Efate Port Vila and reacted NW one hex in the morning and another one hex NW in the afternoon to the hex west of Lamap.

I thought it was coastal and the afternoon strike was tiny.

Edit: Since posting this I've been experimenting with CV reaction in a head to head game.

Indeed , Wobbly, CV's do launch full strikes from shallow/coastal hexes.
It seems the base dots are the only ones to worry about.
Also, CV's already seem to react towards deep water or not at all, ie I haven't seen a CV react into a shallow/coastal hex in head to head experiments.

I can verify that IJN CV's will react from Rabaul into a shallow/coastal hex if attacked by USN CV's :(

Yeah, but they should still launch 100% of their planes. It is only in base hexes where they launch 50%. It should be only in base hexes where the base is size one or better.

Trust me, they do...

Yeah, my CVs were docked at Rabaul when Dadman's CVs attacked. And my CVs reacted. But, it looked like the notorious 1 hex reaction. (They were set to 'Do not react to enemy TF') In this case, it really saved my CVs.:)

Indeed, it was the nefarious "one-step" closure. Too bad they didn't step in a few more, we could have really tangoed...

Minor variation on this: Should Air TF's do the one step reaction if in a base hex? Personally, I would like to see them sit there and get pummelled! :D

Please re-read UV v2.30 fix list...

Post by Apollo11 »

Hi all,

If I remember correctly the UV v2.30 patch supposed to give 50% for CVs in all
coastal HEXes but, in the end, this is only valid for base HEX.

The 1st "work in progress" (i.e. intended) UV v2.30 fix list had "ALL Coastal HEX"
listed but final UV v2.30 fix lists is different and it only lists base HEX where 50%
penalty kicks in...

17) Carrier air unit operations are now halved when in a base hex. This simulates their inability to operate near land. The impact should be that for carriers in a base hex only half as many planes will fly as would otherwise have flown had the carrier been in a non base hex.
