Aircraft can't attack naval units in range

Post by Toni Ailton »

Hello,

while I keep understanding all of the game rules and concepts during my first game of strategic command, I'm experiencing a single issue which I can neither explain to myself nor can I find anything in the manual to it.

Occasionally, my aircraft units cannot attack naval units at sea in spotting range.
When I select the air unit (full AP, strength and supply), the interface shows projected losses over the target vessels, but left clicking on them would only select the enemy ships instead of performing an attack. Also, the combat prediction at the bottom of the screen does not occur while I'm hovering over the target unit.
This does not always happen, even sometimes I can attack only a single unit of several to choose (which are all in range). In one case I had to drive a naval unit back with my own ship, after which I coulod finish it wih my bomber which wasn't able to attack before my naval attack.

I experienced this with ships in the english channel with my air based in northern France, as well as with a naval unit two spaces away from my medium bomber in sicily.

Clarifying would be much appreciated - thank you!
Toni

Hi Toni,

Could it be in this case that the ships were in storms at sea? I believe this would prevent you from targeting them. Same if your own aircraft are in a hex currently in a rain/fog weather condition.

If this is not the case, please feel free to send a saved turn to support@furysoftware.com with instructions on how to repeat it and I'd be happy to take a look,
Hubert

Hi Hubert,

thank you for your quick reply!

It indeed looks like storms would prevent air units from attacking naval units. I will keep an eye on that, but it seems that this explains the described behaviour.
I couldn't find such a passage in the manual though.

Hi Toni

I think there must have been rain too, as that does prevent air attacks on any units, see 5.19. Weather in the Manual.
