What is the advantage to assigning air units to AOG's?

Post by thedoctorking »

In spring 1942, the Soviets are very short of AOG's. What is the down side to assigning air regiments directly to air commands/air armies? Does the intermediate HQ give an additional chance of rolling the leadership check as with ground units? If so, what is the leadership effect of an air division or air corps? Should air divisions be assigned to air corps, or does this not make any difference?

AFAIK, there are no leader advantages from the AOGs. It's really about what you find is easier to use to create ADs and to move units around.

Yeah, it's tough to move units that are in an air command. You either have to send them back to reserves or move the whole command.

You must be missing a step I think its quite easy, just like changing the HQ of an land unit.

The only hurdle is the number they can take and the type.

No, I mean moving them as in shifting them to a different airbase. Maybe there is something I'm missing, but it seems like you can't rebase an individual air unit, only the higher HQ that it belongs to. So if you have air units assigned to an air command/air army, and you want to rebase them, you have to rebase the whole damn air army. Or assign them to some random AOG so that you can rebase them. Clunky.

You can move them. First you click on the LF AOG on the map, next click on the airfield label on the map to bring up the units at the airfield. Then select the units you want to move (all of these are left click actions). You can then use the shift or ctrl method of ordering them to a new airbase(s). You can then tell them to move immediately if you want as you would any AOG. You are limited to moving just the units that are at one airbase, but you can do it.

There are two visual bugs related to an individual unit transfers. No need to attach a saves as you can use t1 to replicate it.

Example:
1 AOG with 3 groups of 1 engine fighters with 30 planes in 1 group.
When you want to transfer 1 group to a new airbase then new airbase will show needed capacity for whole AOG (90 in this case, as there are 3 groups with 30 planes in each of them), instead of a required capacity of 30.

2 After selecting individual groups and then selecting whole AOG - range checkbox is not doing anything and range circles are not displayed. You have to click on different random groups in a hope to fix it. Or save and load, which is pain in the ass.
