KenchiSulla (Axis) vs Biburger (Soviet) - "Where are my carriers?"

Post by KenchiSulla »

This is a regular 1941 campaign, started with patch *.15

- Enhanced TB control
- One houserule -> No counter naval bombing to break port isolation!

I am curious about the rationale behind the house rule.

I think from realism perspective, the counter is 'send in fighters to shoot down what is sinking cargo ships ferrying supply in'.
Because if Russians are to interdict Curland Pocket ports for instance (and there is no naval asset here to do so), it's not that German bombers will improve the situation; what is needed is to clear the skies from the Russian bombers.

I think also the recent AAR of Tyrone may have affected this.

So it begins....

One of the reasons I "dread" playing the Axis is mostly the start. The constant worry that I'll mess up something important. But I'll suck it up this time :-)

Luftwaffe will target the VVS fighter bases in reach. If there are a lot off MiGs present in some cases I'll use a double tap to kill more.

OKL:
Operational objective in the first week of war: Destroy VVS fighter arm on the ground, protect advancing troops by use of the Jagdwaffe and use tactical and fighter bombers to support the ground troops @ critical sectors. Note that fighter bombers and tactical bombers are not to be used in the suppression of the VVS!

The JGs are to be provided with our well trained replacement pilots (TPI). The hand in the sky might micro flow of pilots to some key bomber groups....

Method
I'll use the CR to activate groups in my ground phase. This way I"ll have decent control over committed luftwaffe forces. The

Air phase results:

Decent result, around 700 modern fighters destroyed for acceptable losses. I expect some resistance in the North and South from remaining fighters so I'll have to pay attention there

Why send Totenkopf into Ventspils when it can be isolated with naval patrol?

Do not forget to add escort for it, as priority for the naval missions is not working and they are flying before airbase bombing, and if you fly without an escort then you gonna pay with your bombers, as I did :(

Some hard fighting with fairly high fighter losses. A lot of the VVS SB2 formations are gutted though..

Its set up that way in the game mechanics for some reason. NP always goes first despite the priority. On turn 1 the best way to get around this problem is to fly Naval Patrol on Day 2 to 7. I agree it is still worth sending an escort just in case some of the Soviet fighters survive or a repaired during the turn.
