Cost and energy of some weapons system?

Post by Jorgen_CAB »

I just wonder a bit why for example a small Epsilon Torpedo mount have the same cost in both construction and energy as a medium mount?

For the energy I'm not sure if per shot includes the entire volley or not, as the only difference of the Small versus Medium mount is that the Medium fire two torpedoes. So will it draw 30 times two as it fires two shots... I assume it is per shot so 60 total energy for a volley?

But the odd thing is that both weapon systems have the same construction cost. I can understand that the smaller one might be more expensive in relation to size, but equal in cost seem a bit tough. But then again this is only me theorising and wondering in general.

I think I saw similar on other weapon systems too.

I will reply to myself here...

The more I think about the cost issue the more I really dislike or rather hate that it is the same cost for a small as a medium one. When you have an OCD issue like me you will torture me when you force me to create unbalanced designs. Say you play the Mortalens and you want to make an Escort and you want Railguns in the front. You might not have the space to put two medium guns in the the front so you want two small ones... but that is stupid as one Medium is just better, less crew, cheaper and otherwise exactly the same thing...

Why do you torture people like me like that... [;)] ...it is NOT fair!!!

It is theoretically possible to split one gun visually over two slots - while it "still only counts as one".
Is in this little thread of mine: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=5141901

However in practice you will propably put in the guns after Hyperdrive, reactor and Control Center. So if anything, Mortalan Ships lack engines [:D]

However I just learned that apparently Ion/Raigun is not a bad combination.

I can live with it but it will hurt me bad sometimes... really bad... I really wonder if Code Force has been bullied by OCD people at some point. [:D]

Oh please. Programmer are notoriously OCD.

They propably want to work on it for 5 more years before releasing it. It is usually management or sales that has to get stuff out the door. [:D]

I'm not sure what you mean. A Medium Mount is double the size, has twice the Static Energy usage and also fires twice the shots at the same energy per shot, so twice the effective energy cost on the reactor over time. Do you mean the resource cost, in that both components cost 6 Nekros Stone and 3 Cuprica?

Yes... it is twice as effective for the same cost... so... if I can only afford one medium or two small (space reasons) I would always choose one medium component as two small would be twice the cost. For me that hurts if I must fit one medium in a hull where I could symmetrically put two small instead. On a mental level that is... from a practical standpoint it makes no difference. [:)]

Perhaps there is some benefit in two small that I don't know of, such as more durable or something?

I get you now. In my experience the increase energy and size are bigger factors than the resource cost, also two small will give you two components with potentially two different arcs that will often be harder to fully destroy than one medium, but the one medium lets you concentrate more firepower.

I agree we should increase the resource costs for the Medium and Large components. May not get to that before release though.

We have a saying that many small streams... you know what they lead to...

My mental state is more concerned about those hulls where you have several equal arcs... that would drive me nuts. [;)]
