Strange Result

Post by warnevada »

In the 82nd Airborne scenario when the weather cleared I tried to drop the Van Der Heydte paratroop battalion adjacent to the US supply source hex to foul up the US supply routes. In the drop the battalion drifted four hexes. The AI became aware of it and started moving units toward it. The next turn I moved it two hexes closer and some of the AI units reached it and attacked, but the attacks weren't effective because the attacking units had only enough APs for two or three combat rounds. So the next turn I moved the battalion adjacent to the supply source. And this is the strange thing: the supply source disappeared. And the really strange thing, the following turn the AI surrendered, giving me a decisive victory.

This brings up some questions.

Did the supply source disappear because it was ungarrisoned? Should it have? I seem to remember in other scenarios I had to physically move into the supply source hex in order to remove it.

Why did the AI surrender? Up to that point it gave me quite a game, virtually destroying the 16th Panzer Division, and I was barely at the minor victory level.
