No0b-ish questions

Post by MxM111 »

Sorry for asking these questions, I did spend time looking, but I just can't find answers for this:

1) What is the difference in engagement range between nearby (nearby stars? Planets?), sector (there are sectors?? DW:U had sectors, I see nothing like this here) and same location (within weapon range? Within one planet surrounding?)

2) What is evade attack stance? It will still attack but from max distance? It will run away? It will attack until first hit?

3) What are attack, close escort, and picket roles in the fleet as oppose to evade/cautions/neutral/aggressive stance? Whom are you closely escort? Does picket mean you hang in the back? Even if the role is aggressive? Totally confusing.

4) Planet population growth question. In the tutorial video it is mentioned that the growth depends on cashflow and construction resources. How? I suspect the cashflow meant as colony growth funding level in Empire Finding Level table. But construction resources? Where do I see this connection? Is there a way to see exactly what contributed to my, for example, 3% population growth on one of my planet?

"Nearby" is some short distance. Hard to quantify, but it's pretty short. Meanwhile, "Same Location" means around the same major celestial body, so that includes all its moons.

There are no sectors. There were going to be, but then they were axed. Some references, unhelpfully, still remain.
2) What is evade attack stance? It will still attack but from max distance? It will run away? It will attack until first hit?
Evade runs away. It does not attempt to fight.

Attack means the ships is in the center of a fleet formation. Close escort is the second ring of the formation. Picket is the outer ring.

Correct about the population growth funding. You can't really see how the construction resources influence the growth in detail.

Would it kill them to describe it as "center", "inner ring", "outer ring" instead of these enigmatic "attack", "close escort" and "picket"? Do they do it on purpose to confuse people?

Yes, it would kill them , it's not in their DNA to make things simple when they can complicate the heck out of EVERY game.

It is just... they went to a great length in this game to improve interface, and then they put the mysteries of the ship roles as part of interface, probably to keep us in shape. ;)
