Reincarnating crewmen

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Reincarnating crewmen

Post by FM »

Even if I read this forum for quite a long time, this is my first post here and it is quit a long one. I am french so excuse my bad spelling.

I'm currently playing germans in a v4.4 WWII long campaign started in 1939 and during the last battle I've finished (12/41 vs Soviets), I noticed something strange about dead crewmen and replacements.

Near the end of the 12/41 battle, I had in my core forces a Support Pz section looking like this:
J0) PzKpfw-IVe, 1Lt Seibert (leader), exp 101, 48 kills
J1) PzKpfw-IVe, Sgt Kleemann, exp 110, 81 kills (my best unit)
Suddenly, while advancing, my J0 unit was destroyed in close assault by a lucky hidden soviet crewman unit Image, leaving no survivors. J1 unit was prompt to avenge their comrades but J0 was definitively killed or so I think.
At the end of the battle, Sgt Kleemann was promoted 2Lt and during the fix/repair phase, I fixed the destroyed J0 PzKpfw-IVe.
In the new battle I'm playing now (1/42 vs soviets) the section J looks like this:
J0) PzKpfw-IVe, 2Lt Kleemann (leader), exp 103, 84 kills (2 other kills after avenging J0 death)
J1) PzKpfw-IVe, Seibert, exp 114, 48 kills

As you can see:
* when J1 became J0 unit, it keeps his kills but have the ex-J0 experience (improved by the battle I presume)
* the "new" J1 unit have the ex-J1 "improved" experience and the ex-J0 kills and name but did'nt have rank.

Remembering my last battles this is'nt the first time it happen, and my core forces contains a few tank units with name but no rank.

I did'nt find anything on this topic in the forum, so is this a known bug?

Frank.

Yes, this is known, and I believe is being addressed!! Thanks for the observations. The no rank guys are buck privates, or something. BTW your English is just fine, got my French beat!!!

Maybe 1Lt Sibert actually survived, but was demoted for getting his shiny Tiger blown up by a Red squad. Image

Thanks for the answers...

Hum Flashfyre, if it have been a Tiger, I wouldn't have him demoted but court-martialed and executed for losing it to a mere crewman, but it was only a Pz IV Image

BTW, could it be possible in a future version of SPWaW to separate tank kills from other kills?

I remember "Tank Aces" series from Novastar and I guess that Wittmann (amongst others) kills' score didn't take into account soft targets.

I would like in my long campaigns compare my best tankmen with these historical figures, so I must better know before starting a new one if it could be implemented or if I must keep manual record of tank kills.
Of course I will wait for v4.5 to get rid of the reincarnating crewmen bug.

FM,
Search for the topic "Immortal Leaders" and you should find some other posts on this subject. By the way, look carefully at your "J" formation. When this sort of thing has happened to me, the "J1" unit, with the rankless leader would remain the leader, while the "J0" unit with the newly promoted Lieutenant would be just an ordinary unit. Look to see which unit has the (+) symbol on it or has the "H" in front when you look at the headquarters list.

Oops, I just read the "Immortal Leaders" topic. I have searched "crewmen" in subject so I didn't find this one.
In my campaign, the newly promoted Lieutenant "J0" is the leader (+) and not the rankless "J1".
BTW in the "Immortals Leaders" topic, nobody speak of the switch between experience: see my original post.
I hope v4.5 will fix this bug.
