Fuel tankers will NOT transfer caslon to spaceports. Even when manually telling them to.

Post by hurricanex90 »

Hi everyone. I'm having an issue with caslon that's grinding my ship economy/maneuvering to a halt.

My spaceport has a 0 caslon on hand. I set the spaceport to maintain 10k. I order one fuel tanker with 5k caslon to transfer fuel to the spaceport using the context menu. The tanker flies up to it and...stops.

Their mission status goes from, "Transferring fuel to spaceport" to "No mission".

I tried 3 fuel tankers. Each have 5k caslon. All of them parked in front of the spaceport. No fuel transferred.

What am I doing wrong?

Side note: Is there anyway to make fuel tankers prioritize filling spaceports to a minimum level (say 50%), and to not take caslon from spaceports?

Fuel tankers will only top up other ships Fuel Cells.
Not their storage.

Moving stuff to storage is the job of freighters. How do you have such a shortage?

Might be an issue. Noticed my starting world and main star base has 0 caslon, while my empire has lots of sources and full mining stations. There is a mining station in the same system with 18K caslon sitting there. Started my current game with 1.0.2.6

First, verify the game files. DW2 gamesfiles break. A LOT.

Asuming that did not help:
Do you have any freighters? If so, what are they doing?
Any mining ships? Do they have any soruce not already used by or with a planned Mining Station?

That's indeed an issue, it's not possible as of now to service manually space stations with tankers, to give them a reserve of Caslon, despite the order being there. If the intended behavior is to forbid this, then the order should not be there, but that would be a pity, to remove this control tools for players willing to dabble into some micro-managements. So I'm inclined to think that's a bug.

It sounds like you do not understand:
Fuel is not Caslon

Fuel Tankers can top up Fuel.
They are not Caslon transports - unless that Caslon goes into fuelcells, it is not leaving the Fuel Tankers Cargo bay!

This is typicaly a bad game machanic design again .. like "for game balance this MUSST be the case - if it makes sense or not ..."
"If" the tanker can tank fuel out of a space station to full his cargo ...
"Then" it make NO sense he cant doing this the same way back ........

In this initial release, fuel tankers have one role, which is to provide fuel to other ships, similar to resupply ships in DW1. Freighters and the private sector transport fuel between locations.

If you have a save where the mining stations have reached their maintain level and fuel is still not being transported to other locations, please share that save. I'm seeing fuel transported to spaceports all the time in my testing.

I set my Caslon mining stations on manual stock piles and set the minimum to quite a bit less than the automation does - this is especially helpful to get the home system Caslon as quickly as possible.

Freighters will not pick up Caslon below the minimum Stock pile levels.

One side effect of retrofitting fuel tankers is that they unload their Caslon at the spaceport, so you could mine Caslon sources then retrofit your fuel tanker if there are not enough freighters with Caslon delivering in near future.
However Fuel Tankers mining engines are not that efficient and freights might just beat the fuel tankers mission, plus you have to redesign the fuel Tanker to get a retrofit ;).

I guess what is misleading is that 'Transfer Fuel' means 'top reactor fuel tank of station' while 'Load Fuel' means 'Load Caslon into hold'.

I would suggest renaming Load Fuel to Load Caslon...

Yeah it probably is the core issue.

Transports do not care about world and space port desperate needs, as long as mining stations stock pile is not met. End result is a mining station in same system with 16K Caslon and 0 Caslon at homeworld and space port and idle transports.

There is some indication the "Maintain" level works differently for stuff that can be mined at a station.

More like "make sure there is at least this much in storage, throw out other stuff to make room" and "do not deliver if below this level, just let it mine". Which would also mean "do not hestitte to grab it, if you need it".

However, it is hard to verify that given the games limitations.
