Is there any way to minimize the game screen temporarily while attending to other mundane computer uses such as work and the like

Press ALT & TAB at the same time and you'll minimize UV

[Mr.Frag]

Be aware that this may cause some problems later in the game with corruption, better to save prior to doing this just in case...
