Disabling graphic features

Post by jaweknee530 »

Is there a way to disable graphic features? Things like the lightning, clouds on the galaxy etc I don't really need and would like to disable as much "extra" stuff as possible to help performance. When playing I already turn off all of the view settings in the bottom right and disable showing basically any ships on the galaxy map aside from military ones.

I would second that!

An option to disable for instance the ring around systems and planets -> the rendering format,
Maybe all those rendered options could be turned off with a third option.

On the other hand, it would be nice to change the poly count to different max values, to that at its lowest possible option it would be just a triangle with four sides.
So a really low low graphical thing.

Would also come in handy for the possible implementation for the blind people, wishing more text in this thread here

In GraphicsSettings_Galaxy.xml there's a line <BaseNebulaCloudAmount>3000</BaseNebulaCloudAmount> that's actually in there twice for some reason but I wonder if I just drop that to 0 if it gets rid of the clouds being rendered or if it gets rid of nebulas?

Would be good to get rid of all the translucent menu effects as well. Honestly there's a ton of things I don't need and would gladly take the better performance over the visual effects.

very sad to say that on an game today (2022) where even look not good, even integrated gfx should have no problems with that, the users need downgrading as the engine is "so well developed" ......

Yeah, I'm running a 5950x with a 3080ti and the game is just barely playable the majority of the time with about 30% of the time I have to try three or four times to get my clicks registered while animations stutter.

Actually I find the flickering irritating, it has nothing to do with performance.
It triggers my Shooter instinct and I am always afraid I have to shoot something on the upper left.

Same with the nebulous moving background on the galaxy screen.

2022 or not, I know I am playing Space Excel.
I always like a clean usable interface more than a beautiful one.

Yeah the flickering in a bunch of spots in the UI screws with my eyes a lot. I wonder if I could turn off the transparency if that would help or not.

I went into the pictured files and basically set everything in there to zero. Seemed to help pretty drastically in my performance. Can anyone at matrix let me know what a lot of these settings even do?

Since you're fiddling around with the settings in files, if you know/manage to learn how to disable the "auto toggling of galactic map layers" when you're opening any of the menus, that's one of the worst performance drops for me, whenever i open a menu instant ->3-4 FPS unplayable slideshow.

Oh absolutely. If I could disable that I'd be so happy. If I find it I'll definitely update here.

Could you tell me where the flickering occurs?
I see none of them

I'd also like to know which music files are the actual music of the game so I can delete them safely , without causing weird issues (but not the sound effects) cause even on 0% volume on music it still plays!!! - and as it tries to play the "next song" the game do a micro freeze and then resumes again.

Go to \data\music and create a folder like xxx.
Drag and drop all files inside your new xxx folder.
No music, no stutter, no loading times for that music

Judging from your post - it's safe to remove everything in the music folder which I did and yeah it works fine no random crashes or weird things as the music player tries to play and no random micro stutter ever 2-3-4 minute as it tries to change song! :)
Thanks for the music tip but I have my own music compilations that I love :) , However I might try some distant worlds 1 music first, that is far superior to this sequel.

Thanks for testing/confirmation!

You are welcome, have fun with your own music.
It works the best, when you drag (maybe a shortcut works as well?) the music directly in the music folder.
It then stays playing, whatever you do. That is what I remember.
I tend to let it rund from outside, because then, the game is not involved in music playing :-) It has enogh to do, so I decided to let a program that is designed to play music to do it or just let in youtube some music run.
If there is a good song, type "SS" in front of the link and you download it for later.
So lets say you have found a good music and in the address it says:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvglsTnJW64
then you type in
https://www.ssyoutube.com/watch?v=uvglsTnJW64
press enter and download it below all the blabla and say download with low quality.
That is not true, it is good as anything.

I do not like stellaris (for many reasons), but my personal favorite for a long time was the stellaris music.
Other than that, I like to hear music like described here.
There is also a tip for a good mouse :-)
