The entire concept of colonisation threshold seems pointless

Post by zgrssd »

As I understand it, Suitability is all that realy maters for colonisation.

Suitability is calculate as:
- Planet Quality
- Plus the Racial Bonus to that planet type
- Plus 5 or 10 from Technology bonus
- Minus the Racial Colonisation treshold (50 if none is given)

For example, a Shadar and a Quality 20 Volcanic planet:
20 + 30 - 40 = 10 Suitability

The thing is, that a +40 bonus while leaving Tresholds at the default 50 would have the same effect, with less variables:
20 + 40 - 50 = 10 Suitability

Unless there is some mechanic that uses Suitability before the Treshold, there is no reason for this value to exist.
And if there is such a mechanic, I do not think it is properly indicate.
I am asuming it is a orphanned idea right now. Any plans to remove it?

I think I remember a someone doing an indepth dive on you tube of the economy and how to max population and such. And if I remember correctly the value you are talking about played in towards maximum pop on a given planet. I will need to find the youtube video again and watch but I remember him saying Max pop wasnt as simple as it seemed and that it was using the racial stats for the planet to work out the Maximum that could live on the planet.

The best guide for max population I have is this guide:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 1&t=381813

And it uses Suitability, not the - for lack of a better term - Racial Quality.

Edit: Name similarities the video and text guide here seem to have the same author.
