Bridges?

Post by Capt Cliff »

Why aren't the bridges rated for their load carrying capacity? Not every bridge on the map should be able to handle the 70 ton Tiger II but they can!! Historically there was a bridge near Cheneux that could not handle even PZIV's, which forced Pieper to move to Stoumont where he was destroyed by 30th ID. I think that was from the Bitter Woods or Time for Trumpets.

It should be really easy to add bridge capacity. It's way to easy to move German armor around the map.

That is a cool idea, but would require some historical data about the bridges and their capacity. So, technically probably viable suggestion, but finding proper historical source might be a challenge.

Bridge ratings can be implied based on the type of road going over the bridge. Main road bridges could support the highest loads since all types of traffic is expected to use the road. The other two road type bridges would support progressively smaller loads. After all, the local roads were only expected to support the move of agricultural produce and supplies between farm and market.

Hope there's also a probability to destroy wooden briges with heavy artillery fire.😁

Hi Klaus,
There is already a good 50% chance to destroy a bridge with heavy Artillery fire !

Playing the German I accidentally destroyed a precious bridge firing at US unit defending the bridge, loosing 3 turns to repair the bridge !

Oops, I forgot. And yes. BTW, is the bridge destruction probability hard coded or can it be edited in a table?
