Clearing an LZ

Post by carll11 »

I looked at the F2 readout, but I cant find an Eng. that has Clear LZ in its function, I tried construct engs, regular, and a dozer.....none of them 'use' aps showing they are doing that.....

I believe the XDaisyCutter field is required to clear an LZ.

If the engineers I have cant, as they dont have that in their filed, which ones do? If I have ot load them via the OB, how can I choose or that is, find a daisycutter enabled engineer?

I'm looking at regular US Engineers 1960+ should have the capabilities to do so.

OK, so I checked the engineers in your hill 1338 scn. ob which I used as a base for my scn., hit F2, then cycled next unit etc...went thru all of the engineers, 48, 60,66, 75 82 etc...bridge, construct. engs etc. none seem to have xdaisycutter under their capabilities listed... :?

That could be because the XDaisyCutter is in a morefire field. It might not be displayed?

Berto would know for sure.

Regardless, if the units have: XPathfinder | XMineClearing | XBuildLightBridge, (in conjunction with XDaisyCutter) that will also work for clearing LZ's.

The Regular Engineer I mentioned above would definitely have XMineClearing and XDaisyCutter, so should be able to clear an LZ if the historical landing zones option is not in use.

My Father (US Army Infantry) had jungle training in Panama in 1963/64. They cleared Landing Zones with C4. Now could copter land or just hover I don't know. But he told me they blew up trees. But you just can't get a 'dozer in if there are no roads. Paradrop? HAHAHA you need a big clearing and they are to heavy to drop. Equip the troops with C4 or ability to make a clearing.

So I figured out I think how it works- I had a construction eng. and, a Dozer in a jungle hex- I highlighted both, clicked ctrl-C...the icons didnt change and no AP's were used.

Next turn I checked the hex and the dozer icon has an expended ammo sign ( hollow bullet) and zero APs and the Hex now has a LZ signifier.

...the construction unit showed no change....so I assume the dozer did the work(?)

I'll experiment and try it with just the construction unit.

Sure wish I knew for sure :?

Actually Tempest the 'field expedient' method is for a chopper to drop us some chainsaws and we grunts did the work... wasn't easy, a lot of the trees etc. were moist and it gummed up the saws...

A while back, the XDaisyCutter flag had been moved from the Fire category to the MoreFire category. But in various places, the code was not updated to reflect that category change. As a result, DaisyCutter-capable unit ops were pretty much FUBARed. This has been fixed for v1.20. Sorry for the trouble.

Id like to revisit this real quick; I assume the issue has been fixed as we are beyond V1.20;)

So, as to How exactly to have a unit capable for 'DaisyCutter' clear the LZ?

When I highlight an eligible unit, I then go to 'Units- Clear LZ', select it that way or, type Ctrl+C, however I get a message that says; Cannot drop DaisyCutter on Friendlies'...

created a test scn..cant get a eng . to clear lz, with 2 units that have the daisycutter designation in F2.

Map vn_670428_Khe_Sanh
Scn clear lz test

Hex 62 58 contruct. pltn. Selecting from the drop down 'clear LZ'- results in a message at bottom of screen says- "Cannot drop daisycutter on freindlies"
Using ‘ctrl-c’ does nothing, no message

62 59 eng pltn. electing from the drop down 'clear LZ'- reults in a message at bottom of screen says- "Cannot drop daisycutter on freindlies"
Using ‘ctrl-c’ does nothing, no message

OK I have zipped all the log files, map, org, scn, btl, files into a zip.....thx...

We haven't forgotten this, carll11. The plate has been full (pun intended). I hope to look into the LZ clearing issue(s) no later than next week.
