US Shipbuilding Question

Post by scout1 »

I haven't run the numbers yet, but first pass looks to underplay the US shipbuilding capability and/or shipyard capacity later in the war ....

Curious as to opinions .....

It is very difficult to ascertain which ships were built for the Pacific and which for the Atlantic fleets. The US build a lot of ships. Players tend to underbuild ships for the Allies and the Axis.

WP2 will have specific factory types for armor, air, naval which will make a more balanced play and encourage building different units.

Fair enough, but naval units already have specific factories (shipyards) for this, do they not ?

recently I played(am playing) a game as the allies vs a good axis player who committed to/knows how to play the BOA.

what i didn't realize, since the BOA doesn't really ramp up until a few years in, is that it is incumbent upon the USA to invest a few hundred PP in shipyards very early in the war in case this happens.

shipyards aren't expensive. they are cheap. BUT, you need a lot of them, and they take a LONG time to build.

in short, a reasonable investment in yards will make the US a pretty awesome shipbuilding nation. but you have to get ahead of the game.

So true, I'm currently playing a test case as the Allies to establish what the US can do along these lines under the best of circumstances .....

Yes but there will be arms, armor, and aircraft in WP2.... I hope. I need to get the data for it.

Fair enough, but the three items above are far more similar and less unique between each other than shipyard builds IMHO ..... My statement about a test case I"m running to see what the US can do under the best of circumstances is to see if I max out shipyards then eventually MM, how much can be built and when ...... I have past games where I "can" trade 400+ oil to England .... I'm curious if I can even reach the transport needs to accomplish this .... Again, this is merely a planning exercise ....
