Extremely slow response of miner ships to resource shortages

Post by WiZz »

Hello.

I am noticing a weird thing with new versions of the game. When you have a resource shortage it takes forever for miners to start mining. They mine EVERYTHING (fuel, luxuries) except needed resources.
For example I haven't polymer. I found a planet with Polymer source but can't afford a mining station. I am expecting that privates help me but nope.
Plz, help, I prefer to play on Harsh home system so I get such dire situation too often.

Hi WiZz,

I was dealing with a similar situation in my last game, and I carefully watched my miners. It seems that miners take a pretty long time to fill up their holds, and they'll keep mining whatever they're working on until then. In the early game, this is challenging because the miners will get built and pick their first mining targets a little before you start running into resource shortages.

I'm not sure what happens after one finally finishes mining and drops off it's load. Instead of waiting that long I temporarily added some resources to my homeworld so I could build the necessary mine and get on with the game.

Hi.
I waited long enough (~10 years) and my miners actually have done a few expeditions.
I suspect that miners won't mine if target is too far to travel back on 1 fuel supply. But constructors often build even with empty fuel cells...
