Opening of registrations WP championship

Post by CHINCHIN »

Hello everyone,

I resume the organization of the championship, all those who already registered in the old thread, will have to confirm it in this thread, along with the new ones registered.

Keep in mind that this championship can last for years, and several games will have to be played at a good pace. If you cannot ensure this dedication, it is better not to sign up. It is understood that there can always be occasional absences, trips, unforeseen events, vacations...

The registration period will end on May 20. And the format of the championship will depend on the number of registered players, but it will probably be 2 simultaneous mirror games with the same player, or 4 mirror games with two players. The difference in Victory Points will be taken as the victory value, in case of surrender, abandonment, or victory by conquest, a fixed value of VP will be taken to be determined later, maybe 800 VP will be good, what do you think?

To sign up, fill out the following form:
1) Nick:
2) Time zone where you usually reside:
3) If you had to take a group between “A” more experienced and “B” less experienced, which group would you choose?
4) And if there were three groups, "A" expert, "B" medium, or "C" novice?
Point 2 will only be taken into account if the format of the championship is in a league format.

This isn't possible, WarPlan isn't remotely cheat-proof. Casual and fun play only, sorry.

I'm in it's doable maybe a few house rules, or anything goes as long as a mirror game should be good, what are you calling a cheat sveint? if strategic command can do it we can imho it has way more balance issues then wp

Don't even need to be computer savvy. If your turn doesn't go well, hit the X and restart the turn.

If you're a programmer, let's just say it isn't built for competitive play. (Not criticising Alvaro, the PBEM server isn't built securely either).

I welcome your tournament and look forward to hopefully reading AARs but knowing human nature, as soon as there is even the slightest reward, even just some renown, people will cheat.

There is no prize in this championship, it is about encouraging the games, I have been playing a Civilization IV championship for a long time, and it is very addictive, you no longer want to play games outside the championship, you know that no matter how badly you go in a game you add points for the championship.

Here I hope the same thing happens, it will be important to lose by a few VP, or try to win by as much VP as possible.

Cheating is wasting time and fooling yourself, it seems to me the most absurd. I understand that some player will do some cheating, but I want to believe that there will be few players and minimal cheating, besides a good player prevails no matter how many cheats his rival makes, since repeating a combat or another for having more or less losses is not going to nowhere. It is also easy to recognize who is cheating by looking at the results of the battles.

A cheat control is easy to implement, hopefully it will be done in a future patch.

If user press X during a PBEM, I propose to automatically save the turn to the PBEM server.

And if user wants to kill the task, I propose Matrix add a counter in the PBEM interface to show how many time the same turn was loaded without a save of the same PBEM turn. Like this, we can view the turn, think, save and then play later. But not replay the turn.

Sorry but this is naive. Cheater can just kill their internet connection.

Also, the savegame is on your local computer. Just give it up, you cannot prevent it.

All games have to be played in good faith.

Oh savegame is on my computer. I was thinking it was on the PBEM server.
So can you load it outside the multiplayer button?

Probably not, I can't be bothered to try.

But the data is there. If anyone really wanted to, they can modify it. All the server does really is simulate sending the savegame by email.

One issue is some players like myself have crappy internet so sometimes it wont upload and we have to take our turn again and try again which can be VERY annoying especially if the turn went well, could be seen as a cheat if turn didn't.

That was solved by Alvaro. I also have few internet connection problems. But, the game now detects it. You just have to wait in this case.

I would be willing to try.
If someone is obviously cheating it shows up I reckon.

My theory in WP is this:

If your opponent never launches attacks that don’t work, they’re probably cheating a bit

Luckily my opponents know that my turns are littered with attacks that didn’t work and incredibly stupid mistakes like misusing air assets and sailing ships into ports where they get sunk by enemy air that I didn’t realize was in range.

I’m also a pro at sailing small fleets near big ones and watching my capital ships slip below the waves for zero return.

boldairade does like submarines.

Though his battleship subs are more expensive.

Sorry guys to derail the thread. If you'd called it "friendly tournament" instead of "World Championships" maybe?

I would join for fun. I am honest and play mostly for fun, but the electricity here in the middle of nowhere Thailand is a bit sketchy so had to redo more turns than I want to acknowledge. Its never off for long but have these like 2 second breaks fairly often. Very annoying having to restart the computer and everything.
