The Future of Assault/Self-propelled Guns...AT that is.

Post by bcgames »

For URAN 1942 and Monty's Front, I'm thinking about changing the unit type of assault gun units from antitank to mech--and--eliminating the StuG ground assets currently found in Stalingrad scenarios (on occasion). In this idea, the unit type mech would become mech/spg (spg = self-propelled gun). This would give StuG/self-propelled antitank units a +2 shock value in the attack versus the current +0. This would simplify the game by eliminating StuG assets. This unit's type would include StuGs of all types, SU-76s, tank destroyers (M-10s), etc.

What say you?

I think that is a good plan. There should be a shock value to them. It's in their name after, all ("assault guns").

I'm not clear about what eliminating them in this game means, however.

Yeah I like pushing STuG counters around. It adds to the flavor since specific vehicles arent modeled.

I'm talking about these Ground Assets:

The StuG ground units stay in the game.

Hi,

If you eliminate Stugs as Ground Assets and make them all on map units, won't that make them useless in their role as armoured support for all infantry formations with no shock value (as opposed to infantry with a shock value of 0) at all?
Supporting ALL infantry types was one of their major roles right?
Obviously I'm missing something here but damned if I can see what........

Rob. :?:
So we're at war with the Russkies eh?? I suppose we really ought to invade or something. (Lonnnng pause while studying the map)
Hmmmm... big place ain't it??

No, you're right. The reason for the StuG Assets was to give them their historical punch in the fight for the city. So the future fix is for their shock effect in the attack outside the city.
