Intermediate frames in execution phase

Post by jdelusie »

I am enjoying learning and exploring this game, but I find the execution "film" somewhat lacking. I feel like this should be the showcase in a We-Go game!

I find the "jumps" between frames jarring in the current state, making it difficult to track which unit moved from one hex to another. It usually forces me to have to slow down the speed of the film and closely study an individual area to be sure that units are moving the way I expected. Also, when a unit retreats after a battle, I've often briefly lost track of where it retreated.

Introducing some intermediate "frames" between pulses in the execution film could substantially improve the experience for the user as well as provide helpful information. The game could use these frames to convey primitive animation (units sliding from one hex to the next like they move when dragging them with the mouse). Or perhaps they could contain color-coded arrows depicting the movement of units between hexes. In summary, I think more visual information about troop movements would help bring the "film" to life and make it more accessible at a glance at "normal" playback speeds.

Yep, it's on The TODO list! Will try and get it in in a patch!
Thanks,

I started playing this game one year ago - but stopped mainly because it was hard to follow the "jumping" units in the replay.

But as far as I can see there is still no new patch. Will there be an improvement with intermediate frames? Or has the development of the game stopped?

Game development hasn't stopped. Indeed, there are two games for the Monty's Front Trilogy currently underdevelopment and reaching ALPHA within the next 30 days. I can't speak to this specific item (The Coder is on vacation/holiday), but the Desert War and Stalingrad game engines and scenarios will be brought up to the Monty's Front standard--once that standard has been tested and approved. Conservatively speaking, all of this should have occurred by this time next year.

Winter is coming...farming ends...my attention becomes undivided.
