Suggestion Colony Types

Post by LoBlo »

Here's a suggestion

Lets split the difference between manually controlled colony stockpiles and AI controlled. If you let the AI control the colony stockpiles then the game waste thousands of resources and transfers on colonies that won't ever see action. If you try to do it manually its manageable until mid and late game when there are too many colonies to keep track of.

Solution: When a colony is formed, set a colony type to tell the AI how many stockpiling to do. For example 1) Light a few hundred per resource 2) Medium a couple of thousands per resource 3) Heavy stockpiles ten thousand per resource

It would make things more manageable.

I love this idea...

I'd extend it to include maybe multiple roles that can be assigned to a colony...
So:
  • Minor Shipyard (some building stockpiles, more than a regular colony w/o minor or major shipyard status)
  • Major Shipyard (serious building stockpiles - and ergo things like the special facilities that increase build rate should go here)
  • Minor Staging Ground (some invasion troop generation)
  • Major Staging Ground (serious invasion troop generation)
Not sure what else might make sense - but those would be super handy!

Going with simpler "Shipyard" and "Staging Ground" w/o the major/minor status would prolly be 90/10 solution - since most of the time, simply being able to name a few select worlds is all I really need - adding "minors" to that just adds some flavor which is kind of cool, and would have some utility.
