Use of forward air bases via AI

Post by BigDuke66 »

Having processed T1 I had expected AOGs to be moved forward by the AI using some of the captured ABs. But what I see now is disappointing, AOGs like Koluft 9 even moved back as far as Königsberg although there are more then enough ABs on Russian soil. A bunch of ABs South of Kaunas and Vilnus are empty, just like a great flog of ABs North of Brest-Litovsk, and none of them is damaged.
I though the AI properly allocates AOGs forward with the stands Advance, but overall only 2 ABs of all the many captured in T1 are used now.
What did I miss???

The AI is very supply aware and tends not to move air groups to poorly supplied bases.

You can leave air transport groups just associated with a given Luftflotte (don't link to a ground HQ) and then they will try to move freight to relevant airbases as their mission.

basically a lot of human players push the LW east far too early and just add to their early game supply issues. I reckon its about T5 before i will really start to redeploy much beyond a few fighter units to cover key sectors. The AI is prob too constrained, but its being basically fairly sensible
