Japanese AI hung up in Bangkok?

WarPlan Pacific is an operational level wargame which covers all the nations at war in the Pacific theatre from December 1941 to 1945 on a massive game scale.

Japanese AI hung up in Bangkok?

Post by Professor Chaos »

I started my first full campaign game, as Allies vs Japanese AI in the 1942 scenario.

After one early battle in the Solomons, it seems like the entire Japanese navy holed up in Bangkok and has stayed there for the entire game. Here is the combat report when the British launched a naval air strike against the fleet in Bangkok:

Is this part of the AI plan?

Thanks. These are small adjustments in the A.I. I make periodically. They are looking for a safe port so they aren't bombed into oblivion from Allies Air Power. They try to stay in range to intercept invasions. But this is a dangerous spot for them. I will add this to the bug list.

Thanks Alvaro!

Although the problem may be more is that Bangkok is useless, rather than dangerous. I only came near Bangkok recently. Otherwise I have been pushing up the Solomons and the Marshalls with no response from the AI... seems like Truk or even the Home Islands would be a better place.

I was also surprised that the AI did not put up more of a fight in Burma. After a few months of no offensive action by the Japanese I began pushing forward with the British and Indian forces.

Again this is the 1942 scenario; don't know if the AI is any different from 1941.

I adjust the A.I. to win the game on points not all out victory. So it knows when it has to defend and hold. Japan's economy is weak.

It's probably not defending the Solomons due to your Naval superiority would be my guess... and basing in Bangkok which is too far to respond.

WPP is about 18 months behind WPE which is pretty much fleshed out for A.I. and balance.

Odd that the AI brought 4 armies and they just sit in port.

I would think that they would load the unit there and drop an army since they would likely be stronger.

A.I. is complicated to do and takes time to adjust. Especially when you have different scales in the game.
