Noob question - how to send pilot to reserve pool

Post by Seasick »

SO far I have not found a way to send a pilot from a squadron to the reserve pool, but I know there has to be a way to do this. The manual doesn't seem to explain this and so far I haven't come across anything in the forum that explains it. Help would be appreciated!

Two ways:
In the squadron screen select the Pilots list at the bottom of the screen. Then:

- right click on the pilot you want to select and send him to the squadron reserve, then right click on him again to send him to the general reserve, OR ...
- at the bottom of the screen click on the yellow hypertext that says 'Group' to change it to 'Reserve'. Then click on pilot you want to send to the General Reserve.

Plus, with second method, you can send multiple pilots (1, 5, 10) to General Reserve, sorted by Experience.

Very useful when using unit as training squadron. When pilots are sufficiently trained, send 10 best to General Reserve and pull in 10 more from Replacement pool (remember to change pilot source from Any to Replacement (these are real rookies, Exp 20s-30s), otherwise you just pull back pilots you just sent out...)

Extending what BBfanboy wrote...(edit:and making visual what Sardaukar wrote)...

Say you want to send multiple pilots who are the most advanced in Air skill to the Reserve. First, go to the pilot screen for a group.

Next, click on the column head indicated by 1 in the diagram below. This will sort pilots according to their level of Air skill. (You can select any of the column heads in yellow text to sort by that characteristic.)

You will notice that within the parenthesis on the lower left the word "Air" will now appear as you will be selecting pilots based on their level of Air skill. This is indicated by 2 in the diagram.

Next click on the text GROUP (indicated by 3) to cycle through Group, Reserve, Active. This indicates where you will be sending the pilots. Get the word "RESERVE" to appear here.

Now in the box are your choices. For instance, if you click on the upper "Release 10 pilots," you will send the 10 pilots with the highest level of air skill to Reserve. You can click any of these items in the box multiple times.

You'll also want to check the Pilot Management Addendum which appears (I think) in the MANUALS sub-directory in the game directory.

I can remember doing this once upon a time, but new computer and recent download later - my screen doesn't show the same stuff that Panjack's screen shows. I wonder if I need to update to a newer version, although I just downloaded the game a few days ago.

My steps: I click on an airfield, then click on a unit (under unit name), then click on pilots. My screens are a subset of what Panjack shows.

Mystery solved - downloaded newer version of game. A bit annoying that the download that came when I purchased the game was back level. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

Official patches end some time ago. One person kept working on the game after and produced several unoffiical patches called Betas. There is in the pipe line and posted on this forum a proposal by Matrix to formally apply the Betas into an official patch.

That Beta version 1126b was applied to the upgrade of the official version from 1124a to 1126a in the last official update. What is being done now is a final update to the game after which no more developers will make changes on their own time. A lot of suggestions have been made, some are not necessary, some cannot be made economically and some were submitted too late (after the approved list of changes was handed to the programmers). Some of the fixes and improvements are being tested by volunteers from this board's memberships already. Now we just have to be patient until the project is tested out and completed.

Really? If the case then the numbering system is confusing.

That Beta was in the works a long time and with significant changes each step, went from 1124b to 1125b before it got to 1126b. The official patch 1124 was in place all the while so when it was decided to update the game a couple of years ago it made sense to skip 1125a and go straight to 1126a.
