Request: More accessible ingame info (scripts, setups etc.)

Post by CapitaineHaddock »

Hi everyone! For those of us who like to play an occasional competitive PBEM/ELO game, but don't have our entire lives to commit, I am frustrated by the time and energy spent seeking information on various scripts, mobilization triggers, setups etc.
It is certainly OK to play casually for those who enjoy that, but let's face it, if you like to play competitive games (and I enjoy that tremendously, even though I am not the best player), you need to know scripts and setups.
Presently, you need to dwell pretty deep and spend a lot of time finding the necessary info.
A really great feature would be an ingame function to have all this info readily available. I don't know exaclty how it should be organized, but I would like to simply click on a capital and have the relevant scripts and mobilization triggers show up. It could be more or less ambitious in terms of interface and design, but I think there would definitely be popular demand. Any views?

Howdy. I use notepad++ and use the SEARCH folder *.txt routine for whatever I am looking for in there. The dev did a great job putting # notes in the headers to splain what all those entries mean. The hardest part is finding those PESKY hex coordinates! :D

One thing of that sort would be to put units into the build queue after the relevant DE or such "locks" them in for certain. Right now not only do you have to remember them, they don't count against your build limits until they show up, allowing you to game your builds.

Dude I've been posting in the forums for months asking for Bill to make public the game scripts.

There should be in maps a section that has every event related to each country and each city within the country. The effect of DOW any country at any time. Explanation of Russian Winter (mine hit in March once??) have lines shows around Russia for winter and lines around china for mobilization triggers etc.

I agree game requires way to many playthroughs just for a basic understanding of what's what.

Thanks, glad to finally get some traction on this topic. I agree with the proposals you’re fleshing out. Would be great to hear the developers on this.

Thanks for the feedback and while I can certainly understand how this would be a great feature, it's unfortunately a monster task and not something that will likely happen, or happen any time soon. :(

Thanks for the feedback! Good to see the developer team being so responsive.

While I recon this is a major task, I don't think we should let the best be the enemy of good.
Isn't it conceivable with a quick fix? No fancy graphics, simply a catalogue of events/triggers etc. grouped by country under the same headings as in the script folder and somehow accessible ingame? (by clicking on countries in the diplo screen or by adding a new screen).

Another great addition would be a log of decision events, triggers etc. a bit like the end turn summary accesible ingame.

In my opinion one thing that should be done and it is relatively easy to do is to specify the exact number of NM points each NM objective will cost each Nation if lost. It could be included in RED below the NM objective. This will show readily were to concentrate your military efforts in defense and offensively.

I agree with CapitaneHAddock that it is very difficult to search for some info in those scripts. For a long time I didn't go there at all and for sure players that visit these have a great advantage over "maiden" players.

About the triggers:

Player mdsmall did compile a list of them for the WW1 version of the game a while back (https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 9#p4855599). I've however no idea where to find that stuff and how much work it is to extract and compile it for WaW.

Also I really like Taifuns NM display idea!

I would rather see the developers focus more on the game improvement itself rather than putting energy and time into presentation of information that is already accessible (yes, it takes time to understand the scripting system and sometimes to search).

Truthfully. SC:WaW is on the back-burner for focus since SC:ACW is the hot game at the moment. So anything they do time-wise would best be served by putting it into gaming performance.

I know this isn't what you want. But it is about priorities at this stage.
