Summary: Went nearly the distance in this opening classic post demo period and patch 1.02. Did not read manual, nothing fancy. Went with endless ground fighting. Thought I was losing in early 1864, then the dam broke. There was tons of fighting in Nashville. Sacrifice all kinds of troops, the city changed hands multiple times. Was about to surrender the game myself, was ugly fighting. Mistake I made, despite winning, was sending US Grant to Arkansas, where he was bogged down after initial success in Southeastern part of the state. Had to waste time sending him back to Nashville.

In other news, was really bummed getting wasted at Pensacola Florida. Sent in General Banks or Buell, lets just call him General Bum. Yanks came in with 3-Marines and 2-Divisions. To the East side of the Mobile River. Was rather easy. Then, General Bum decided to march towards Mobile, only to get nearly everyone dead again Rebel backed Corps. Disgusting loss.

Since my first official game, Nashville was ugly, Mobile a disaster, and little Naval successful work. Decided to just exchange troops for nearly an odds ratio. Rebels countered and gave me many dead. Eventually, resistance softened and ground ping-pong. Shenandoah Valley was the first to make progress, which eventually got to Raleigh, North Carolina. Was able to cutoff unknown Rebel General and Corps, East of Knoxville, this helped Grant prepare for Atlanta. No clue how I wont, but I'll take it.

Grant was 1-turn from taking Atlanta

Summary: Slugfest, goes the distance. South barely won. 16% fighting spirit at end of game. Lost Virginia. Everything by Chattanoga in Tenn, North Carolina almost toast. etc...

Summary: This got nasty, very quickly. Mizzo Redlegs rode out behind Sterling Price, capture *key supply pressure point. Game was immediately intense. Mizzo/Arkansas complete full-war in 1862. Hallock's Calvary and Bridges were backed up by General Grant in SE Arkansas. Rebels where on their Heels, forced to go smash mount. Union getting momentum early in Trans-Mississippi. Since the war was going quite well in Arkansas, made sense to send General Pope to Memphis. Union was winning at Graceland and Little Rock on the ropes.

Summary: Army of the Tennessee won a decisive battle at Graceland. Yanks were too slow and struggling at Nashville, so they rushed to Memphis. We were waiting with nasty sting. New Mexico, made a rare offensive, we opponent left HQ Canby hanging out his laundry East of dusty city. He probably forgot to move. Other fronts proved proper Rebel organization can cause Lincoln a defeat.

Wow, both matches seem to have been hardcore. I'm especially impressed that the CSA under BattleVonWar lasted till 1864 in an MP match. Garlands to to both of you guys in that match and the one vs Devoncop!

Yea I think I would of gone for the CSA Minor Victory but that's rather boring and I assume the South Loses when she loses Richmond/Memphis/Nashville. Also I do think that Rambo could of taken Atlanta possibly but not New Orleans. That's unfair to him... He smashed through me after losing a ton of dead Yanks. IN real life Lincoln would of been hung by his own Cabinet for losing 250,000 more men by Jan 1864

Congratulations you are 4-0. I resigned as the South some time in '62 (December I think,) this was the first version which overwhelmingly favored the North and I'd played 5-10 turns prior as the South. You had captured Fredericksburg & Pensacola.

@PvtBenjamin --- Our game, you were doing fine. Fredericksburg & Pensacola are no big deal. Was coming with the heat towards Richmond, but that's nothing special. Don't think there's many shortcuts to quick victory for either side. Game has endless attrition battles. I'm not chalking up a win based on our game. We can start new if you wish, pick either side.

I'm not sold (neutral opinion now) it's that easy for the Union to win, gotta crush the Rebs below 10% or take 3 of 5 game important objectives. We shall see. Game is much different than SC-WaW, time will tell.

@PvtBenjamin --- No worries. Private Ben's games will be private. Haven't given it much thought. Did same thing for 2 years in SC-WAW forum, no one cared. Just trying to get some activity. My record was weak against strong opponents who figured out every exploit & mastered them. Only reason I game (again), was the madness of the covid scam. I have enough trouble finding my TV remote control.

You are correct, gotta max out the chits on Infantry/Corps. Well, you don't have to, but if opponent does, it's a diaster.

I will have to take our challenge you are by far the best CSA Player I've played of the "newbie non BetaTester Crowd" and you should show the people just how very unfortunate life is for the CSA. I have had the pleasure to run into a player who taught me some tactics I don't think are beatable. In fact I think = 1863 Demise of the CSA unless you enjoy Masochism.

I played 2 very adept players... What they did to my CSA economy was quite laughable. I literally had 60 units by mid 1863 and they had over nearly 110. It's a snowball effect once the Union learns how to utilize it's shut down of the South's Economy, game over.

Cut these ports:

1. Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, Galveston if you want, New Orleans, Mobile and blockade the rest with ships. If the South doesn't defend the ports directly she loses European War Entry and they send less goodies... The quicker you do the above with your Marines + Frigates + Gunboats + Ironclads = the quicker the game will be over. If the South defends then you probably can invade Tennessee earlier.

There are always people like me that are new to the game that are beatable on either side. I played a guy in the Europe game and he never got close to taking France and I captured Italy, I never used this as an example of the games balance.

Once people have gained enough experience and tactics I see no way that the South will be able to win. Not only does the North have a large MPP advantage but they can research 2 chits on most research up to 4k vs 2.8 for the South. Of course the North also has the large Naval /Amphibious advantage up against silly weak forts in key cities. Ships having land spotting ability makes amphibious attacks very easy. I'm playing someone as the North its almost embarrassing the damage you can do with amphibious Marines.

IMO the game will have to make major changes to the balance to MP to be long term viable.
