Free French

Is there still a chance French units based in the UK & NA will become Free French after the fall of France?

I ask because in recent games no French units remained at all. This conflicts with my earlier experience of at least 1 & sometimes 2 or more units remaining.

Yes, but the chance depends on the circumstances. The following is from DE 600 in the 1939 World at War Strategy Guide:

The Free French: If Vichy France is created, any French land or air units on friendly Allied territory at the time, e.g. in the UK, will have a 20% chance of becoming Free French. No naval units will become Free French, as this is handled by scripted events. If Vichy France is not created, then should France ultimately surrender then any land or air units on friendly Allied territory at the time, or naval units still in existence, will have a 40% chance of becoming Free French.

In one game I kept the Engineers, the Special Forces & the Fighters. More recently though - absolutely nothing. Hey ho.
