My idea is to make a scenario using the largest possible map size. The map would be of all of Europe, using SPWAW-scaled terrain features to depict european geography as closely as possible--water hexes for the oceans, for example... tree hexes for forests, creeks for rivers, single "building" hexes for small cities and little clumps of hexes for major ones like Moscow and London. You get the picture. And of course the two opponents would be Axis vs. Allies. I figure, single armor units could represent tank divisions, infantry squads represent army Corps, airstrikes represent bomber formations, and so on. Use reinforcements to simulate national Industry and the entrance of powers into the conflict.
Now of course the scale of the combat, the firing ranges and so on, would be extremely unrealistic without some serious messing around with weapon ranges and, almost certainly, the "toughness" values in Preferences. However, I'm sure it could be done.
Why do I want to play something like this?
I just think it'd be really cool! All the ingredients are there in the SPWAW engine to do it, AFAIK, and it would be a trip to use the engine on such a scale, instead of pushing around bits of cardboard with NATO symbols on them, hehe.
So my question is, has anyone ever made a scenario of this sort and if so, where could I find it?
If none exist, then DO feel free to use my idea if you see anything in it, guys, because I'm pressed for time myself and am certainly no scenario designer. Pretty please...
Oh heck, I think what I'm gonna do is try my hands at a campaign-level sort of thing first. I'm thinking Battle of France. It will be easy for me to get all the information I'll ever need and more by loading up my long-neglected copy of TOAW.
And if you see some kind of insuperable hole in the idea, please let me know before I plunge in
Thanks,
peace
Wait... I mean War! War!
