[Suggestion] Manual Colonization

Post by Thineboot »

Based on [1.0.6.4] and all those various threads complaining about one or more aspects of colonization, colony ship, chosen and disbanded orders aso, I'd like to offer two simple solutions for manual colonization.

A. One order:
When you order a colony ship to be built at one of your colonies, you can order 1. Colonize xyz before it's finished. Once built the colony ship performs an automatic Load colonists at abc, with abc being the colony/spaceport it was built at, before fulfilling the 1. Colonize xyz order.

No order queue is necessary. Just make it possible to give the unfinished colony ship a colonization target and and load the most suitable race of the colony where the shipyard is located. No search for another colony. [rephrasing, should finish sentence in one go ;)]

B. Two orders (queue):
Same as above except for not one but both orders being manual: 1. Load colonists at abc and 2. Colonize xyz.

A. One order:
(A) 0. Load colonists at yard's colony
(M) 1. Colonize xyz

B. Two orders (queue):
(M) 1. Load colonists at abc
(M) 2. Colonize xyz

Load at abc, according to the existing racial mix there? Because you're implying that abc will have a singular race.

But isn't it LIKELY that the population at an existing colony will be suited to that colony type? As the Shangri-Las would sing: Oh no, nono, nonononono. Many conquered worlds will have an eclectic population mix, and I even see some strange migration going on if I don't use the colony policies to restrict it.

So if you're having to check the population mix before giving the order you're virtually doing the work anyway of a two stage process.

The actual answer is to fix the bugs that make colonisation a problem so when you order a planet colonised it loads the optimal population. Let them try that first.

Yeah, why offering a fast and easy solution for manual when we can force them to instantly come a with a perfect automatic one...

Exactly!

Though the fix would be for manual colonisation as well. You click on a colony ship, right click on a planet, select colonise and it automatically loads the best colonists for your manual colonisation order. No reason it should be any more complicated to do than your, I have to say, unintuitive suggestion.

Well, whatever you say

At the moment there are many problems, and colonization is just one of them. [1.0.6.4] +20 counts as LOW suitability, [1.0.6.4] Colonize² or why not send two Colony ships?, [1.0.6.4] Colonization: AI vs Policy Settings and that's just page 1 of Distant Worlds 2: Tech Support. Automation just isn't working right now.

Until the devs find the time to take care of all these problems, it is enough to load the primary population - you need 500M of the race in the colony to load it - and to colonize a certain planet you need only one value, the target planet.

You may be aware that there are no order queues at the moment, you may not be. Without an order queue, you just have to keep it simple. And that's what (A) is: simple, easy to implement as a solution to a much larger problem that will take more time and resources than is possible right now.

I'm talking about fixed one click colonization. No order queues. You're the one suggesting a two part system, complicating what should be a simple process. You're trying to fix the process in your head when the problem is a bug. Sometimes a bug is a bug.

Did they fix it? I haven't been playing since my last comment (or probably a bit before).
