Exploration Ships Losing Tasking

Post by Bellrock »

I started a new game playing the latest release of the game 1.0.6.4. over the course of the last week. In this game, I seem to be running into issue with the exploration ships, issues I did not see in the last release. When I manual assign them a task of exploring a specific system, sometimes they do the job; in other systems however, they basically refuse. As this version of the game has been release for approx. a month, I’m surprised there is not a topic issue being discussed. So, I would like to ask if anyone else is having the issue, or if it has been addressed elsewhere?

Past release I would right click on the sun of the system I wished to be explored by a given ship, and receive a drop down of ‘Explore System’. Once the command was selected, the exploration ship would explore the entire system. Worked like a charm!

Current game, there are a couple of systems in which these commands do not, or only partially work. The exploration ship would arrive at the system, and maybe explore one planet. I would reissue the command again, looked like the command would be accepted (status of ship would change), then a few minutes later find the ship without a command or task. Would repeatedly reissue the command, or even set is to explore a specific planet in this system, and the ship would stop and refuse to explore.

A good number of systems seem to be explored fine, while some systems the exploration ship will explore maybe one planet then ignore any manual commands to explore that system further.

Furthermore, I’m seeing a couple of systems on the map in which I’m given no options to a command to explore. At first I thought these system may be some sort of graphical glitch (as in not really a system). But later in the game saw one my explorer ships (on auto explore) explore these systems???

Is anyone else seeing these issues?

Thanks

I had also observed this behaviour in my latest 1.0.7.1 game.
It's pretty much as you described. My problematic system was within a nebula.
For further troubleshooting, you will probably need to attach a savegame, which I unfortunately cannot provide.

I've seen this, but I don't think its a bug. It appeared that fuel range was the culprit of the issue- upgraded drives, reactors and fuel cells prompted further exploring, as well as the discovery or construction of new refueling locations. This occurred for me when the starting colony was sandwiched between two large nebula formations, and the exploration fleet quickly reached their limit.

The automated survey range seems far smaller than the ship's potential fuel range. I generally leave it to automated exploring anyway, but in the case of certain systems (namely, former homeworlds), I'll manually control a ship to specifically explore those systems and survey only the world(s) of interest, and it would have plenty of fuel to do so and return to its normal operation.

I'm not certain about this, as exploration is no longer a focus of my runs and didn't test it to be sure, but did note that the above led to them resuming automated exploration.
