Terrain Effects Chart

Post by bear99293 »

I just purchased the game and am trying to learn how to play Strategic Command Civil War. I'm having a very hard time trying to figure out if I get a river defensive bonus or not with a unit. There is no terrain effects chart in the manual for some reason, and no information whatsoever how to determine if I get the river defence bonus or not. When attacking across a river, the attack is more difficult. How do I tell if I am across the river?

In some hex-based gains being across the river means you're sitting right on it. In others it means you're the hex adjacent to the river. Which is the case in this game please help and please put more charts in the manual.

Thank you for your consideration and response

For small rivers marked by thin blue lines near the borders of hexes (eg Bull Run), you get the river defence bonus if the river is physically between your unit and the enemy one. For instance, in the image below, you would get the defence bonus if your unit was sitting in hex A and got attacked by an enemy in hex B, but not if that enemy attacked you from hex C.

For the really big navigable rivers that go through hexes (eg the Ohio), then you get the defence bonus if the enemy unit is on a hex that has that big river going through it, and your unit is on a hex that does not.
