Some questions I could not answer myself reading the manual

Decisive Campaigns: Ardennes Offensive is the fourth wargame in the Decisive Campaign series. Covering the battles in the Ardennes between December 1944 and January 1945, it brings to life Operational wargaming by lowering the scale to just above tactical level.

Some questions I could not answer myself reading the manual

Post by Novaliz »

1) It says: "Every individual gets a random initiative between 0 and its initiative score." I can not find a initiative score in the unit stats?!

2) What is the "i" behind the second defense value? Is it against infantry?

3) What is the "Max attacked" stat saying? For example Max attacked: 3%?

4) If an attacking unit has an attack score of 600 and the defender a score of 40, then a random number is generated between 0 and 600 and 0 and 40, right? It is a hit when the random number of the attacker is higher then the defender score, right? When it is a hit, when it is a kill or retreat? The manual says "based on the statistics of the attacking troop type it is determined if it is a retreat hit, kill hit or pinned hit." What are these "statistics"?

5) I do not get the math of this example: Where is the +39% coming from. It says "All the estimated modifiers multiplied with each other"? I studied german and philosophy, not math :p Maybe I am just stupid atm ;)

Yes. Equipment value vs infantry (mostly lower vs infantry).

You wrote good post :)
I am curious too.

There is no such thing as a historically accurate strategy game. Every game stops being accurate from the very first move player make. The first unit that moves ahistorically, first battle with non-historical results, means we ride into the unknown.

About 5)
39% is the product of the factors, you just have to handle the percentages appropriately:

-10% --> 0.9
-26% --> 0.74
-14% --> 0.86
+31% --> 1.31
+32% --> 1.32
-1% --> 0.99
+42% --> 1.42

Then multiply:
0.9 * 0.74 * 0.86 * 1.31 * 1.32 * 0.99 * 1.42 = 1.392328 ~ 1.39

and finally:
1.39 --> +39%
