Manual Project

Post by sPzAbt653 »

The objective of this project is to make the Manual easier to use and understand. This is not an official project of the developer, it is a volunteer project of the community. The official TOAW Manual can be found here:
http://www.matrixgames.com/amazon/PDF/O ... manual.pdf
Attached below is the current working version of this Manual Project, known as the Civilian Version [CIV]. The .zip includes an updated Hot Key [KeyCommands] List, a Scenario Bmp doc for Paint for Scenario Designers, an Equipment List, a Player Manual, an Editor Manual and some of Slides that pertain to specific references found in the Manuals.

Please feel free to contribute suggestions. While all suggestions are fully considered and very much appreciated, it is possible that some suggestions may not be incorporated into this project. If you are posting a suggestion here, it is recommended to first post the passage from the manual [in italics], followed by your suggested revision/clarification in regular type and with any further explanation.

Goals are:
Clarification for everyone. This manual needs to appeal to many levels of comprehension, therefore it should be easy to understand for all - veterans and new players.

Easy Search Terms. Common Search Terms should be involved in the text, some of which should not be found too frequently. Obviously, if you want to know more about Supply, searching for 'supply' will result in too many hits and most likely not be profitable. Search Terms need to be more specific, and the text needs to contain commonly searched for terms. For example, 'unit recon' in reference to a units 'Reconnaissance Value’ is found only once [and that in reference to disengagement attacks].

References. There is no crime in 'See also', so these can be added where applicable, and removed where found to be inaccurate.

Repeats. Areas where the same or similar things are repeated can be removed, if possible.

No 'No Brainers'. We don't need 'Start Button = Click here to Start'. Items so obvious can be removed.

Incorporate information from the 'What's New' documents, where appropriate.

This Manual is divided into two parts, a Player Manual and an Editor Manual. There is a new section at the end of the Player Manual called the Annex. This is for gathering all information on one topic that is scattered thru the manual. For example, need to know about Parachute Op’s? Go to the Annex and there is one page that contains all rules and info concerning Para’s.
