Re: War Of The Rings (LOTR)
Graphics for this scenario have not been upgraded to the TOAW IV format. I would appreciate deletion of the scenario from this posting and that it no longer advertised as a TOAW IV scenario.IslandInland wrote: Sat Oct 29, 2022 4:22 pm Unzip the download and place the WotR PBMv04f folder in your Graphics Override folder located at Documents > My Games > The Operational Art of War IV

I actually uploaded this for someone who has PM'd me about the Lord of the Rings scenarios.
I did this to help them out as they are "computer illiterate". Their words not mine and I thought that by converting it and uploading it here they could have access to the scenario.

Appreciate your intentions and efforts Mr. Island. It is worth mentioning that some scenarios were left out of TOAW IV on purpose. It is the Scenario Designer's call. The general guideline is that if the Scenario Designer can not be reached thru reasonable effort, then that scenario can be considered part of the public domain.

Re: War Of The Rings (LOTR) - DELETED
Do you happen to have a list of the scenarios that were left out of TOAW IV on purpose? Or should it be assumed that all the scenarios not bundled with TOAW IV were left out for that reason?sPzAbt653 wrote: Fri Nov 04, 2022 4:08 pm Appreciate your intentions and efforts Mr. Island. I mostly find that the very old scenarios often with obscure subject matter interest me the most as those are likely covering subjects no other wargame has ever touched.
As an aside the person I converted the LOTR scenario for has contacted me and apologised for this. They further add they are enjoying the scenario and report that it runs without issue.

The obvious answer is, any that weren't includedDo you happen to have a list of the scenarios that were left out of TOAW IV on purpose?

Any inclusions had to be submitted by the Designer/Author. Excepting those that were in III and any that may have been requested to be not included from III. There was no list of the later, they were just dropped from inclusion.

Not that this matters to the douches.
It seems to me that once its uploaded to public domain its public domain.
You never should have deleted it and no-one needs apologize for douchebags acting like douchebags.
In my humble opinion.

I agree. I deleted is as a courtesy I suppose. I was surprised posting it would elict any adverse reaction. The scenario is in the public domain and has been for many years. The scenario briefing states March 2007 so for over 15 years it has been out in the wild so to speak.
It can be downloaded here:
http://alternatewars.com/Games/TOAW/TOAW.htm
under the Other Category (scroll down the page). Anyone can then convert it to a TOAW IV scenario by just opening it and saving it in the editor.
Also the graphics seem fine to me.

There seems to be some confusion about why I requested that the LotR scenario be taken down. You’ve been around long enough to know that there is a courtesy where the poster asks the author for permission before posting a modified scenario. As is, you posted a scenario with corrupted graphics and unit database without asking for permission.
I spent a good amount of time and effort building the map, unit database and graphics. If not the first, it was one of the earliest scenarios to be designed using custom graphics and the Yeves database application. (Shout out to Yeves). I am quite happy with the scenario as I made it and would like for it to remain uncorrupted.
Now, if you want to invest the time and effort to build a TOAW IV graphics set I’m all for it. If you want to play LotRs with Orc units which look like NATO icons, that’s fine too. Just erase my name from the briefing and rename the scenario with your name so that no one thinks that I am associated with your scenario version. And don’t try to tell me that TOAW IV graphics cannot be adapted to this scenario; I know better.
As for the trollie who likes to use the term douche bag, until he learns a little respect, there’s no room for his kind on this forum.

All I am hearing is a sniff and a fart into an ancient seat cushion.
And I think that's all your actually doing
Maybe you haven't noticed but this game struggles for new users.
You should step off with the nitpicky BS and let guys have fun. Or better yet, help them make it better.
And if you don't want your scenario's played then don't upload them to public domain.

If you feel so strongly about it why haven't you updated the graphics for TOAW IV?rhinobones wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 5:53 pmI agree. I deleted is as a courtesy I suppose. I have loaded the ME (TOAW III) version of this scenario into TOAW III and the custom graphics on my monitor are so pixelated and blurred it makes the scenario close to unplayable at my monitor's resolution. The TOAW IV conversion on the other hand with NATO icons is crisp and clear.

I’ve played the original scenario without incident and no one else has ever reported a graphics problem. Sounds like this is something peculiar to your system.IslandInland wrote: Tue Nov 08, 2022 2:57 pm I have loaded the ME (TOAW III) version of this scenario into TOAW III and the custom graphics on my monitor are so pixelated and blurred it makes the scenario close to unplayable at my monitor's resolution. Try War of the Last Alliance, also available at http://alternatewars.com/Games/TOAW/TOAW.htm
It's included in the Other Category zip file. You will need to open it in the scenario editor & save it to be playable in TOAW4.

It's sad. I just needed some games to place at my Lord of the Rings game section here https://lord-of-the-rings.org/lotr_game.html Maybe somebody could recommend me any simple LOTR games that I could use for website?

WotR v05 (The Authorized Version)
If you can wait a few months a TOAW IV WotR version will be released.Saruman7 wrote: Fri Aug 04, 2023 7:21 pm It's sad. A few months ago, RedAss offered his talents to build custom WotR unit icon sets and bring the old TOAW III version to life as a TOAW IV scenario. His work is absolutely magnificent as shown in the attached screenshot.
I will be spending the coming days incorporating his work while updating the OOBs, Equipment256 icons, adding play against a Sauron programed opponent and modifying some text files. It may not sound like much but the work is both tedious and time consuming.
