The Battle of the Philippines
The most titanic battle for the Philippines is now in progress! it is well defended by Japan with, Marines, Armies, most of their remaining navy and lots of air force, there is also some coastal fortifications so the allies have a challenge, so far a successful landing north of Davao that was opposed by the first (in this version of the war) kamikaze attack damaging 2 US battle ships that were subsequently sunk by a Jap carrier sortie. The Philippines are the most important island group in the war imho, so the battle will be long and bloody! right ncc1701e ?!
Re: The Battle of the Philippines
Right.
A day of glory for the US air force that has eliminated several steps of your remaining air units.
A day of glory for the US navy that has sunk five Japanese carriers. The Yamato BB is damaged but still alive...
With 29 of your MMs ships remaining, I am wondering if you still have an oil stockpile.
Turn is back to you.

Lucky for Japan it is the end of 44 so I don't think they can lose.
Don't need much oil anymore especially since you keep sinking their ships...just dig in with armies and wait out till the end of the war.
BUT if Japan is losing China and Malaysia then things get interesting.

Oil is also useful for air units. And in this game, there are a lot of Japanese planes.stjeand wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 1:52 pm Don't need much oil anymore especially since you keep sinking their ships...just dig in with armies and wait out till the end of the war.

Re: The Battle of the Philippines
At this stage it gets fun finally for the Allies...and less so for the Japanese.
For them it is a puzzle.
Which piece do the Allies want next...and how do I delay them long enough.
HOPEFULLY Japan had 100% oil at this point.
THOUGH I do think something around air / armor / mech unit size and oil consumption needs to be addressed.
An air unit at half strength should not consume the same amount of oil as a full...in fact an air unit with 1 str consumes the same.

To give everybody an idea, I think Allies are perfectly on time.stjeand wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 1:52 pm BUT if Japan is losing China and Malaysia then things get interesting.
I am near Singapore. And the Royal Navy is now coming into the picture. It will attack the oil fields in Sumatra as historically. Oil fields in Borneo are already attacked by strategic bombing. And now, I am landing in the Philippines.
Hong Kong and Shanghai are under siege. From the Mariana islands, I am now performing the very first strategic bombing on Japan on the city of Osaka.
Peking is still resisting due to the bad weather. And Russian are almost ready. Waiting for the good weather.

BUT I am not winning yet. The Japanese still have the advantage in victory points: 1496 > 1468

Re: The Battle of the Philippines
Wow that last one really brings it home, can't believe I haven't sunk any of your carriers! It has been a very fun game. It is already lost for me but still fun to see how long Japan can hold on. Dig in boys!
Re: The Battle of the Philippines
I have learned the hard way to engage carriers only when land based air superiority is around. You have damaged a lot of them but never sunk one indeed. I was lucky.generalfdog wrote: Sun Nov 06, 2022 1:43 am Wow that last one really brings it home, can't believe I haven't sunk any of your carriers! It has been a very fun game. Re: The Battle of the Philippines
Philippines is much harder than expected. Several landings are performed to isolate Legaspi and to finally reach Manila. The good news is that Japan has no longer any merchant marines. Our subwar is successful.

General Mac Arthur is leading the final assault. Now, progressing north of an isolated Manila, US army will soon be victorious. A naval blockade has been initiated near Aparri after taking this screenshot.

Re: The Battle of the Philippines
Japan knows he can no lose this island. As such a last attempt is made by the Japanese carrier fleet to sink the Allies fleet. Two BB are sunk, the Idaho BB and the South Dakota BB.
But, in return, all the available US carriers are launching a devastating assault on the remains of the Japanese navy.
It is a decisive blow against the Japanese: 4 CVs, 6 CVLS, 1 CVE, 1 CA are definitely gone.
Only one US carrier has been sunk during this battle.

Japan seems still out of reach. Super fun game, my best funnest PBEM game so far, historically balanced.
