Air Mobile Questions

Post by alomoes »

I'm making a scenario where I would like to have units that can paradrop basically anywhere really quickly. Basically, to represent troops that are intended for quick surgical strikes. Is there a way to change the distance you can paradrop in TOAW? I tried creating a plane to do it with combat range 50 and transport capability, but the max distance is still set at 4/day or 21/week. It's a 100 km per hex scenario, and I'm trying to make it easier to move troops around for strategic redeployment without using rails. If I need to, I can use rails; It just doesn't make sense given the scenario.

The troops at the base need to capture Odessa within a week.

I did some testing, and I'm most likely just going to deploy the troops to the right of Odessa, it's something I didn't want to do, because it feels less railroaded when you can direct your troops wherever, but I guess I have to.

You are talking about Air Mobile and Paradrops, which are two different things. Some light investigation indicates that the ranges cannot be changed. Para's do have much longer range than Air Mobile units, so if you haven't yet then maybe try Para's with Air Transport Capacity [set in the Editor] taking off from Airports. Air Mobile units use Helicopter Transport which do not need an Airbase, but it seems their Ranges and Capacities are hardcoded.

Yeah I checked it, and I can't increase the range. Oh well, I'll just have things moved by event. Thanks.

Your only option would be the force movement bias, which would increase all types of movement for the force.

You might want to reconsider the map scale. At 100km/hex you've put a low-end limit on distance traveled in a single day.

Re: RB's comment about hex scale.

Hmm. Wonder if the hex scale could be changed in the editor and force movement bias adjusted to reflect 100-km hexes.

Equipment density would be affected, but at these scales, effect probably wouldn't be too dramatic.

Cheers
