This is assumes DET (detection level is at 10; intel). If it is anything below all is reading goat entrails.

Hint #1: is the values for defense and attack on the counters. Depending on the margin it may be enough.

Hint #2: is the HASTLY and DELIBERATE floater which appears prior to the right click. It is far more accurate as it considers defense, forts, terrains ...

But: it does not consider chain of command checks (dice rolls) and thinks like Air Support directives and reserve units ... etc... Thus, once you are in the neighborhood of victory or defeat, both are possible and you are left with intuition.

* If I am opposed by one hex 1/3 units versus my 3 whole or more; a good sign.

* If the enemy has anything like "volks" in their title I don't they are professional soldiers. If my troops are denoted AE, well they are special.

* If their ammo indicator is red and mine is bright green, they may not be all that eager to do recon by fire.

* If my prior attack on them or comrades did not solicit air support or reserves joining the party, then is a decent change they are on their own.

* If my prior attack just dropped just dropped the L4 for to L1, it may worth to repeat the same attack. In general, following up failure (when no material changes is not the most the clever idea), but here it is a good omen.

With enough experience, you should start being able to call what close outcomes will be with better than 50:50 odds.
