An idea for Greece

Post by ncc1701e »

April 1941 - this is normally the historical dates for the invasion of Yugoslavia and Greece. Greece was invaded from Bulgaria by the German troops which is impossible in the game due to this event:

I was trying to think of a relationship between Yugoslavia and Greece. And I fail to see one. On the other hand, Greece was Allied leaning. At the same time, Greece did try not to provoke the Axis.

In the game, usually Yugoslavia is invaded in 1940. And Greece never. However, Greece was clearly a threat for Germany for its invasion of Soviet Union (south flank). That's why Germany did invade Greece.

How to provoke a German invasion then?

I think Greece won't have done anything until it was sure it could win. With UK alone, no chance. But, my view is that when USA is indeed in the war and that Axis start to lose, there is a good probability that Greece would join the Allies.

So my idea is to create an event starting in 1943 only, let's say July 1943 and that will be triggered only when Alexandria, Tripoli, Tunis and Tobruk is in Allies hand. If so, with this event, Greece will join the Allies.

So now, either Germany invades in 1941 either they have a problem in 1943.

To repeat history, what would be cool is to change the above event so that Bulgaria joins the Axis on March 1st, 1941 (historical date). Like this, German troops can be at their historical starting positions.

Second, since this will triggered an Allies reaction, I would like to ask that Crete port is added to the list of the possible port blockades. Like this, we will have an interesting naval battle around there with German planes in range...

Actually if you did what happened historically it would work out exactly right and you could invade from Bulgaria, Italy invaded in Oct of 40 and then floundered about for awhile until Germany came to the rescue in April of 41, i think there should maybe be an event in Oct of 40 that puts Italy and Greece at war, although it is nice to be able to not make all the same mistakes that were made historically....hum idk

Oh yes but I was never attacking Greece before I wasn’t sure to defeat it quickly. The risk was too high to have plenty of British corps coming. Now that UK is less powerful early, it could indeed work.

Still think that without port blockade, Crete will be impossible. Allies will bring an infantry corps and a naval landing without supplies will surely fail. This is my experience of Iwo Jima.

Crete is too large for a port blockade.

Read about how supply was sent. In all sorts of imaginative ways. A country simply doesn't have the resources to block Crete. Lot's of ways to get supplies in.

Crete is 5 -37 miles wide and 161 miles long. Try patrolling 161 miles twice (north and south side) trying to stop small ships at night coming in and delivering supplies.

You can't do it.

I will not force Italy to get involved in a foolish war they can't win.

Bulgaria wanted to stay out of the war. Only under incredible pressure from Germany did they join and only because Germany wanted to DoW on Greece. They were walking a difficult line between two juggernauts. They also never DoWed on Russia.

Thus why Bulgaria is tied to DoWing on Greece.

IF you were going to have Bulgaria join so that Germany can attack I would suggest you remove their "units" from the map and then place them via an event that way they can not get involved with their army.

You could delete all Bulgarian units from the map.. have Bulgaria join the Axis early so they can invade from there.

Just an option is all.

You could then add the units to the production queue IF you invade other wise they do not appear there...or appear on the map when war is declared.
Probably a way to remove the production points via an event also...or add them.

Basically you get Bulgaria as a "road" and that is all unless you invade Greece.
