Scenario 2 v Scenario 1

Post by malthaussen »

Simple question, how does Campaign Scenario 2 "Hakko Ichiu" differ from Scenario 1? The description is somewhat vague.

I'm playing both right now as Allies and there is a big difference.

Some highlights:

-The Japanese get a LOT more resources to work with, enough that they don't need to be in a rush to take the SRA
-The japanese get a LOT more trained pilots and more pilots to their training pools
-The Japanese get a more squadrons of bombers and fighters to start with
-The Japanese get more deployable armored and infantry divisions sometime around May 1942.
-And many more!

Basically it just gives Japan more to work with at the start. Come to my Discord and some of our Japanese players working with scenario 2 can give you more info! My opponent Hellsen, for example, is my Japanese opponent in scenario 2.

Just in logistics, you get larger stockpiles of fuel and supplies at the beginning of the scenario, particularly at Truk, Kwajalein, Saigon, Takao, and other key locations. In terms of sea-power, you get more destroyers early (4 more at-start), plus more in the queue. About 6-8 extra in 1942, and a whole Shimakaze-class later in 1943/44. You also get 3 extra Agano light cruisers in the build queue. You do have to pay for all this luxury of course, with Heavy Industry points. You don't get any extra carriers. However, the Shinano now arrives in late 1944 as a Taiho-class carrier instead of a modified Yamato, and the escort carriers come in with organic air groups attached. You also get more oil tankers in the build queue.

In the air, you get lots of extra air units with more Zeros and Bettys. Bangkok in particular, is well stocked with additional air groups at start. The scenario also grants more additional pilots to the pool every month; this is actually a bit of a problem though, as you get more than you really need, and it burns up a lot of of HI.

There are a lot of additional ground units; primarily, 4 extra divisions in 1942 (4th,5th,and 6th Guards, plus 1st Gds Tank), plus extra paratroopers.

So, you don't receive oodles of new eye-catching capital ships (unlike, say, Ironman), but you get more 2nd-tier stuff across the board which sure helps in logistics and staying power. It's Japan buffed up, not bulked up.

One aspect that makes it easier for me is that in Scen 2 the Tojo uses the NAK-35 engine instead of the NAK-34. I never bother building a single NAK-34 as a result. Simplifying production is important to me.
